They are created using a plywood/recycled foam fishbone spine and ribs, which are hollowed out to make them as light as possible, but still retaining the strength required to withstand the stresses involved with surfing and flat water paddling.

Back for 2025 and being supported again by a2e Medical Services.

Why bring back the Brutal?
When decided to step back, Gavin and Rob felt they couldn't let the Brutal go. Both had raced it, survived it (barely), and then spent years on the other side as marshals and crew. They've built the event field, cheered on exhausted athletes, and carried more water bottles than they cared to count - this event isn't just brutal for the athletes!
For them, it's not just the challenge of conquering Snowdon, the icy dawn swim, or the endless bike climbs— it's the testament to resilience, determination, and camaraderie. It's the nervous energy at registration and the buzz on the start line. The support during the swim and the aid stations to that final step over the finish line and the well-deserved medal.
For Gavin and Rob, helping athletes conquer this challenge is one of the most rewarding things they've ever done, and because of that, they couldn't let the toughest, most beautiful race they knew of fade into legend.
Brutal isn't just an event. It's an experience. And, IT'S BACK FOR 2025!
