How I Went From Destructive Diabetic With Uncontrollable Sugar Addiction To being Craving Free

So many people assume that managing sugar cravings is simply about willpower, eating healthy

and then diabetes management will be simple right…

But the REAL problem is that the way we feel about our diagnosis and what’s happening to our body, often dictates our behaviour and our eating habits

For me - that was ignoring my diabetes because I didn’t want to be diabetic

and trying to hold onto an identity that was no longer who I was

I’m A Diabetic - And Why I’ll Never Stop Eating Doughnuts 🍩

Imagine the scene - it’s after dinner and you get the usual urge for something sweet

(Anyone who knows me, will know that my go to sweet food is a doughnut 🍩 😋)

However - we’re resigned to not eating doughnuts any more - they are not good for us and as diabetics we are “not allowed” to eat them

But then what happens? 🤷🏼‍♀️

30 minutes later you find yourself in the kitchen stuffing the whole pack of 6

The cravings don’t go just because you’ve ‘decided’ not to eat something

THEY GET WORSE

Ignoring your cravings can actually make them stronger

- especially if you are diabetic and attempting to eliminate ALL the foods you love

This leads to overeating and feelings of guilt and shame

We’ve all been there ladies right!!!

Instead try allowing yourself something you genuinely want - something you really are hungry for and manage the craving successfully

Slow down the eating process - enjoy the whole sensation - the taste - the texture - the smell

Creating BALANCE with food can prevent the intense build up of desire that leads to the behaviour we all know and dread

How I Went From Battling Food And Sugar Obsession, As A Diabetic

To Finding My Peace And Balance With Not Only My Eating Habits

My Struggle And Yours

Hey there,
I’m Sue, and my journey with never ending sugar cravings, my weight, food control and body image has been far from straightforward

Like many busy, diabetic women, trying to maintain a healthy relationship food and my health felt impossible
