Meet Emma | Clinical Solution-Focused Hypnotherapist

For most of my life, I looked like I was coping.

But inside, I was living in survival mode.

As a single mum, I kept going no matter what life threw at me — from a difficult marriage and divorce, to my own lung cancer diagnosis, and raising two children largely on my own.

From the outside, everything looked fine.

But internally, I was exhausted.

My mind never switched off.
I was constantly worrying, overthinking and expecting something to go wrong.

The saddest part was that I wasn’t truly present for myself or my children.

At nearly 40, I discovered Solution Focused Hypnotherapy and finally understood there was nothing wrong with me.

My brain was simply stuck in survival mode.

That understanding changed everything.

I began to sleep better, feel calmer, think more clearly and become fully present for the people I love.

Now, as I prepare to qualify as a Clinical Solution-Focused Hypnotherapist, I help others create that same transformation.

Whether an addiction is behavioural or substance-based, it begins by disrupting the brain’s natural reward system.

Our brains are designed to reinforce behaviours that support survival by releasing dopamine and endorphins, creating feelings of pleasure, relief, and motivation.

When a substance or behaviour repeatedly produces a strong reward response, the brain starts to prioritise it as a fast route to feeling better. Over time, this can:

* Strengthen powerful neural pathways.
* Reduce sensitivity to everyday pleasures.
* Increase cravings and compulsive urges.
* Make the behaviour feel automatic.

Monday Morning Intention ✨

How you start your day matters.

How you start your week matters even more.

Before you dive into the to-do list, the school run, the emails, and everything else life demands of you, pause for a moment and ask yourself:

“If a miracle happened overnight, and I woke up tomorrow as the person I want to be this week, what would be different?”

How would you think?

How would you feel?

How would you speak to yourself?

How would you show up for the people around you?

What would you stop doing?

What would you start doing?

Sit with that question for a moment.

Because often, the answers are already within you.

Maybe you’d feel calmer.
Maybe you’d be more patient.
Maybe you’d set better boundaries.
Maybe you’d trust yourself more.
Maybe you’d focus on what’s going well instead of what’s wrong.

Now ask yourself:

“What is one small thing I can do today to become that version of me?”

Change doesn’t happen all at once.
It happens in the small, intentional choices we make each day.

Start your week with intention.

You are not your thoughts.

This weekend at college, Module 8 focused on Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), and once again I was reminded how debilitating and exhausting this condition can be for those living with it.

OCD is far more than being “tidy” or liking things a certain way.

It can involve intrusive thoughts, overwhelming anxiety, and compulsive behaviours that feel impossible to ignore.

Many people living with OCD feel frightened, ashamed, and isolated, often keeping their struggles hidden from those around them.

But please know this:

You do not have to face it alone.

Everything we discuss is completely confidential, and together we work to help you understand what is happening in your brain, calm your nervous system, and take simple but meaningful steps toward greater freedom.

Recovery is possible.

With the right support, life can begin to feel calmer, lighter, and more manageable again.
