“I don’t want to upset them… but I need them fit for work.”
This is something we hear every week at Drayton Medical Services.
Managers come to us because they care about their people.
They don’t want to say the wrong thing.
They don’t want to damage trust or morale.

But they’re also responsible for:
➡️ safety in the workplace
➡️ operational continuity
➡️ meeting their legal duties
Fitness for work isn’t about forcing someone back before they’re ready.

It’s about understanding what’s going on, what someone can safely do, and what support or adjustments might help.
That’s where Occupational Health helps take the pressure off managers.
We provide clear, objective advice, so conversations become supportive rather than uncomfortable, and decisions are based on medical guidance, not guesswork.

Handled properly, fitness-for-work discussions:
✔️ protect the employee
✔️ protect the employer
✔️ strengthen trust on both sides
👉 If this is a conversation you’re putting off, let’s talk.

A quick, confidential discussion can give you clarity, confidence, and a clear next step, without conflict or guesswork.

📩 Message us admin@draytonmedicalservices.co.uk or comment “OH” and we’ll get in touch.

Another common concern is the belief that involving Occupational Health means employees will be off work for longer than necessary.

In reality, early Occupational Health involvement can make a significant difference. By supporting employees at the right time, we can help facilitate a safe and timely return to work, often with reasonable adjustments that benefit both the employee and the employer.

Employers can understandably feel cautious about contacting staff who are off sick, but delaying those conversations can sometimes lead to longer periods of absence. Early, supportive intervention is often key to preventing absence from becoming prolonged.

We hear from clients the relief when they engage with Occupational Health and find out out that the worries that were stopping them for giving us a call were unfounded.

It's not an isolated issue, we hear this from clients and potential clients time and time again.

We have collated the main client pain points that we have heard, I wonder if any of these thoughts have crossed your mind?

Key Customer Pain Points

Time & Disruption
“Occupational health takes too long and disrupts the business”
Long waits for appointments and reports
Employees off work longer than necessary
Confusing processes
Unsure when OH is actually needed
Overly clinical reports that don’t help decision-making
Lack of clear guidance on what to do next
Cost anxiety
Fear OH is expensive with little return
Worry about paying for unnecessary assessments

Compliance & Risk
Anxiety about getting it wrong legally
Unsure how to manage sickness absence fairly and consistently
Fear of tribunal claims due to poor documentation

Choosing the right Occupational Health Provider makes all the difference.

Choosing an OH provider who is SEQOHS accredited means the company meets the industry standard for Occupational Health. It's a stringent process that checks your provider meets the high standards required for the accreditation. You can check to see if your provider is accredited on the SEQOHS website https://www.seqohs.org/
