The official page of Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust providing regular news and updates The Trust is the second largest employer in Portsmouth.
Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust is one of the largest acute hospital trusts in the country treating over half a million patients each year. We provide comprehensive secondary care and specialist services to a local population of 675,000 people across South East Hampshire. We also offer some speciality services to a wider catchment of around two million people. Our population is character
ised by its diversity – the rural and the urban, areas of wealth juxtaposed with real pockets of deprivation, and gaps in life expectancy. Most of our services are provided at Queen Alexandra Hospital, in Cosham, but we also offer a range of outpatient and diagnostic facilities closer to patients’ homes in community hospital sites and at local treatment centres throughout South East Hampshire including St Mary's Treatment Centre, Gosport War Memorial Hospital and Petersfield Community Hospital. Our Emergency Department (ED) is very busy at the moment.
If you attend with a minor illness or injury, you should expect a long wait and may be signposted to a more appropriate service such as an Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC), NHS 111 or community pharmacy who can see you quicker.
GP Practices will also re-open as usual tomorrow morning.
Where are my nearest Urgent Treatment Centres?
🔹St Mary's UTC, PO3 6DW - open 8am to 8pm
🔹Gosport UTC, PO12 3PW - open 8am to 10pm

We are currently seeing a rise in norovirus cases, alongside continued high demand for services at QA Hospital.
To help protect our patients and staff, temporary visitor restrictions are in place on D2 ward. Please contact the ward before travelling to check whether visiting is possible.
❌ Do not visit if you have experienced diarrhoea or vomiting in the last 48 hours.
Hand hygiene is one of the most effective ways to stop the spread of norovirus. Hand washing with soap and water kills norovirus – hand gel does not. Please make sure you wash your hands thoroughly before visiting and when entering and leaving ward areas.
Thank you for your support in helping keep our patients, visitors and staff safe.

Norovirus is a common stomach bug that causes vomiting and diarrhoea, often starting suddenly. We are currently seeing an increase in norovirus cases within our hospital, so it’s especially important to help reduce the risk of spreading infection.
If you catch it, stay at home, rest and drink plenty of fluids to avoid dehydration. To protect our patients and staff, please do not visit the hospital if you have symptoms. ⛔

We have been awarded almost £100,000 of National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) funding to explore how patients from all backgrounds use the MyRenalCare app. The digital tool was created at Wessex Kidney Centre after people with chronic kidney disease asked for a simpler, more flexible way to manage their condition.
The team are now committed to testing and understanding whether digital care can reduce inequalities for people living with chronic kidney disease.

We have launched a new study exploring a simple breath test that could help detect lung cancer earlier than ever before.
The VICTORY2 research study looks at how tiny traces in our breath, like chemicals, proteins and genes, could signal the presence of cancer before symptoms even appear.
Lung cancer often has no symptoms in its early stages, meaning diagnosis can come too late for effective treatment.
Get your test results faster, before they arrive in the post.
