A very good afternoon to all of my foot fans,

I hope you are all enjoying this lovely warm spell we are having, long may it last!

Today's post is all about new technology, such as AI. So, as you can see from this picture, it is featuring someone having their feet attended to by a robot!

Hopefully, this will never happen, because as you are all aware, when we come to your home to do your feet, not only are we a real human that you can talk to, we are here to attend to your foot health, notice any problems that may be occuring, and passing these onto your GP for further advice and testing if needed!

In the unfortunate circumstance that robots really did take over routine nail care (and associated foot issues), the service you receive would not be half as satisfactory as it is now! As many of you love to have a good chat (myself included) and discuss any concerns you may have health wise.

As we know, robots are very limited in any of the aforementioned!

Enjoy your weekend and the rest of you summer,
Best wishes from the Foot Soother

Good afternoon to all of you foot fans out there!

Hoping you are all enjoying this fine weather we are having.

As you know, Foot Soother prides itself on being a service that is good value for money. So, last year, we froze the price due to the cost-of-living crisis. Unfortunately, this year, due to all of our rising costs, we have had to raise the price by £2.

The price for a new customer is £40 (all in/NVA included) and £27 thereafter, not bad value considering this is a service that comes to your home!

Just to remind anyone who does not know, we don't just cut toenails.

We are trained to look out for a variety of signs that help to ascertain how good your foot health is. This includes toenail condition, as well as other questions: are they ingrown or overgrown? Is the appearance fungal (if so, how severe)? What is the skin integrity like (does the person have eczema or psoriasis that may need advice)? Is the skin ulcerated? Are the patient's legs OK or red/overheated (these are just a few things that we look out for)? And finally, do they need a referral to their GP?

As you all know, we do this quite often, to get our customers the help they need.

So, I hope you all understand that the price did have to be raised. I hope you all have a lovely Sunday and I look forward to seeing you all again soon!

Happy Sunday to all you foot health followers out there!

As we all know, people are now getting their feet summer ready, so for those of you who are still wearing your shoes, this post is for you!

A few reminders of features of good footwear:

Firstly and most importantly, shoes must be the correct size, shape, and width (measured by a reputable shoe retailer). This helps to avoid an ill-fitting shoe.

Secondly, medial arch support of the shoe helps to reduce strain on the arch of the foot.

Thirdly, deep roomy toebox is important to allow enough space for the toes to move and spread with ease.

Fourth, internal cushioning of a shoe helps to reduce pressure on the feet and provide shock absorption (good for runners).

Sixth, a sole that provides traction so as to avoid slips and trips.

Also, good hardwearing material so as to withstand wear and tear alongside seamless linings so as to avoid rubbing feet which causes leisons and blisters.

Lastly, padded collars, which provide extra cushioning, giving support and strength to the ankle and foot, which helps to reduce pressure, minimise pain, which improves comfort, helping to reduce the incidence of calluses and corns, especially in those who have reoccuring problems.

That it for today's words of wisdom for all of you great people out there who enjoy looking after your feet, we will catch up again soon.

Enjoy the good weather, Foot Soother

Good afternoon to all of my foot followers!

Now that Valentine's Day is over, I hope that you all had a lovely time. I wanted this post to be reminding you all of how important your one true love is: foot health, is! ❤️ From keeping your feet clean and hygenic to making sure all calluses and corns receive help from either yourself or from someone qualifed, should remain on your priority list for 2025! After all, we all know how important your feet are to your overall wellbeing and comfort in walking.

Obviously, if there was anything causing you tremendous discomfort and pain, you will have to consult your podiatrist/doctor for immediate advice.

Hoping this early stage in the year is serving you all well, and I look forward to seeing you all soon.

Best wishes, from the Foot Soother

Good afternoon to you all!

I hope you had a spooktactular Halloween and are keeping well on the run up to Christmas.

Today's post is going to be on a more niche subsect of foot health: cutaneous horns. This condition is essentially the result of an overgrowth of keratin (the protein which makes up nails) on the skin, which results in a lesion, or in other words, a 'horn'. These are considered quite rare, and have a very unique and colourless appearance, which lives up to its namesake.

If you find one of these on your lesser toes, it can be extremely painful to walk on. As FHPs, we would be most likely to refer them to their GP who would refer them on to dermatology as this is the best course of action as some of them may be benign. But, others may be cancerous.

Enjoy the rest of your Sunday,

Best wishes from the Foot Soother!

A very good afternoon to all of my foot fans!

I hope you are having a lovely Sunday. Today I wanted to do a post about a subject that may interest some of you - foot size! It seems to be a subject that some of you wish to discuss with me, so I thought I would ellaborate. In a 2019 study, it was found that in Hull, men have the biggest feet, with size 11 and over being the average! Blackpool came second on this list.

Conversely, women with size 8 or over (considered quite large), 15% lived in Milton Keynes, Peterborough, and Plymouth. Scotland, however, sees women's feet at their smallest, with 29% at size 4 or below! Meanwhile, men's feet were at their smallest in Oxford, with 10% taking a size 6 or smaller!

The study was carried out by Shoe Zone. I felt that many of you would find this subject interesting. On a final note, always make sure you get your feet properly measured, not only to avoid skin lesions, but to avoid musculoskeletal injuries.

Hope you are all keeping warm and well, I look forward to seeing you all soon! 😀

Good afternoon all!

Today's post is going to be on the treatment of hard skin on the heels as a result of those who wear sandals and flip flops.

So, hard skin on the heels is a consequence of particular footwear, specifically sandals and flip flops.

This is because these types of footwear have an open-heeled design and thereby have little support for the heel area, are exposed to the elements (causing dehydration), which can dry them out and cause cracking, have little or no arch support, and finally, stress the heel's skin out via repeated friction, pressure, and impacts. Additionally, the experience of walking in this footwear is similar to walking barefoot, which will result in a lack of sole protection and cause the foot to naturally harden in response to this.

So, how do we treat this condition? There are a few ways, which include, but are not limited to: using a pumice stone to gently exfoliate the heel after soaking it, making use of foot scrubs that include natural exfoliates such as sugar, engaging in daily moisturising routines by using creams comprising shea butter, Flexitol (which has a high level of urea), glycerin, manuka honey, and even Vaseline (to name just a few), treating your feet through soaking them in Epsom salts and warm water, keeping up your vitamin B intake, and perhaps most importantly, making sure to prevent these issues by wearing footwear that is comfortable, fits properly, is supportive, and cushioned as this will prevent poor pronation.

I just wanted to mention as well that associated conditions such as athlete's foot, diabetes, or thyroid conditions may also contribute to the issue of dry skin. You may seek medical advice for this if you need too.

I hope you are all enjoying your summertime and continue to make the most of it, best of wishes from the Foot Soother!

I hope all of you are enjoying this warm weather that we having at the moment and long may it last!

Today's post is on freebies! As some of you may or may not know, The Foot Man (Anthony Hewitt) and myself do voluntary work at the The LifeHouse in Southsea every two months, as part of our collaboration, we had many foot creams donated to us, and we have quite a few left over from this.

So, if you want to book an appointment to get your feet summer-ready, with either the Foot Soother or the Foot Man, you will recieve a free Dermatonics foot cream (pictured below)! They retail at RRP £7.

The offer is only active whilst supplies last and all existing customers will recieve one as well as new customers. The best-before date expires in two months, but having said that, once it is opened, it will last for 12 months.

It is a great moisturising cream, with 10% urea, the active ingredient that nourishes the foot's skin, especially the three layers of the feet: including the superficial epidermis, the dermis, and the deep subcutaneous tissue, the deepest layer of our feet.

We hope you enjoy the cream which will help to keep those cracked heels at bay and hoping you all have a lovely and warm summer! I look forward to seeing you all again soon!

A note: If you were to experience any adverse reaction from the cream, eg itching, burning, or anything out of the ordinary, wash it off straight away, and do not reuse. The chance of this happening however, is very slim.

A very good afternoon to all of my fellow foot fans!

A happy Easter to you all, I hope you are all enjoying this lovely break with this fine weather that we are having - long may it last!

Today's post is on a subject that you may or may not have heard of, called splinter hemorrhages; the appearance of this condition underneath the nail is defined as a brown or red colour underneath the top edge of the nailplate.

They look as they sound, just like a splinter. They run in the direction of the nail's growth, these are often caused by trauma/injury to the affected area and are mostly harmless.

However, if you notice that they have not grown out and you don't recall sustaining an injury that caused them, this could have a major serious implication, especially if you have more than four!

Common causes are rheumatoid arthritis/pregnancy and psoriasis, among others.

However, you should seek medical advice for them, if they have recently appeared and you have no explanation for them, as seeking medical attention could potentially save your life, as they can be linked to a rare heart condition.

I look forward to seeing you all again soon, happy Easter from the Foot Soother!

A very happy Mother's Day to you all!

This post is to remind everybody on this special day to the mothers of the world that all parts of the body are important! As our feet carry us around daily for years upon end (if we are lucky enough for them to!), I am here to remind everybody how important good foot health is.

It is vital to make sure that your shoe size is correct, that your cleanliness is kept up to standard, with clean socks and nails kept to to the correct length.

Anything different that is happening to your feet that is out of the ordinary, please contact either an FHP or a podiatrist, or if it is something that is worrying you, seek advice from a GP!

I hope you all have a lovely Mother's Day, and may there be may more to come. 🌷🌹😃
