Six of our incredible service users – each of whom has overcome a life-changing injury or illness – are coming together to take on an inspiring challenge: abseiling down the iconic Spinnaker Tower in Portsmouth on Saturday 23rd May 2026.
This brave team knows first-hand how vital the right support can be. Thanks to our Hospital and Outreach at Home project, they – and many others – have received life-changing care, guidance and encouragement during some of the most difficult times in their lives.
Our three-year funding for this essential project is coming to an end at the end of May, and we are now urgently seeking support to help us continue providing this vital service over the coming years.
The project begins in hospital, where we engage early with families following an acquired brain injury (ABI). At this overwhelming and often traumatic time, we provide clear, accessible information, support with discharge planning, and guidance on what to expect next. Crucially, we offer emotional reassurance and practical support when families are often in shock and unable to process complex medical information. Our approach is always flexible, compassionate, and tailored to each family’s needs.
After discharge, our support continues – helping to prevent the “cliff edge” that many families experience when hospital care ends. We provide ongoing emotional check-ins, help families navigate challenges, and actively connect them to rehabilitation, welfare and community services. We also support individuals and their families to access wider Headway services, including peer support, digital inclusion programmes and community-based activities, creating a truly holistic, wrap-around pathway of care.
Sudden brain injury can have devastating consequences – including loss of income, increased caring responsibilities, trauma, and poor mental health. Without early and ongoing support, families are far more likely to reach crisis point, experience breakdowns in care, and face avoidable hospital readmissions.
Every donation, no matter the size, will make a real difference. Your support will help ensure that families facing some of the toughest moments of their lives are not left to cope alone.
Thank you so much for your generosity – it truly means the world.
