Clinical Hypnotherapy & Wellbeing Practice. Our minds make a mental image and record of the events we experience in life.
Hypnotherapy has a long and successful history of helping people make behavioural change to improve and bring about a better quality of life. The majority of them are wonderful and stay with us as happy memories but some are upsetting and give rise to phobias, fears and bad practices and habits we wish we could lock away, change or stop. A BEAUTIFUL MIND Clinical Hypnotherapy practice is dedicated to helping YOU make the change in your life to overcome personal challenges, be they dealing with ANXIETY, MOTIVATION, STOPPING SMOKING, LOSSING WEIGHT, RELAXING and SLEEPING BETTER, building SELF CONFIDENCE or controlling PAIN. A Beautiful Mind Clinical Hypnotherapy offers both clinic based and mobile therapeutic services, where appropriate. Clinical practice is at the Remedi Clinic rooms in Southsea. Mobile therapy service is available to local people who prefer to be seen in their own home. This is possible where a quiet room and relaxed environment can be provided.

It is always a pleasure to maintain CPD and I attended a Untye Health webinar on Polyvagal Theory lead by Dr Stephen Porges about how his Safe & Sound Protocol (SSP) enhances EMDR work. An interesting seminar that also included 1-to-1 discussion with practitioner Jessica Schultz.
For those wishing to learn more about SSP evidence and case-studies, further details can be read here: https://integratedlistening.com/resources/real-world-evidence
My CPD for 2024 totalled 65 hours of study, receiving 4 Certificates and 6 official CPD points.

One of my top five Positive Psychology 'character strengths', is a 'love of learning' and I am extremely grateful to Combat Stress for being allocated a training place on the 'Cognitive Processing Therapy for PTSD' Foundational Training course presented by Dr. Candice Monson and Dr. Alexandra MacDonald. This builds on the ENHANCE+ training programme of 'Understanding UK Women Veterans: military sexual trauma and how services can better meet their needs'.
There is considerable cross-over from previous trauma training I have completed and I find the differing strategies and delivery approaches to be very reassuring. I am also looking forward to exploring the use of the CPT Coach App and how “fidelity to the protocol improves outcomes".

Following on from my ARA Recovery for All training, I am delighted to be included in the University of Swansea's Project Activate programme for veterans using an ACT App. The research examined the use of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy for PTSD and Gambling Harms over a 10-week ACT App use that unlocks a 6-step programme. I am extremely interested in the participation and outcomes and have already completed the Introduction and Step One.

And I have a passion for being able to bring about behavioural change in peoples' lives. There is no better feeling than helping someone conqueror a fear, get passed a difficulty or overcome a trauma. This is the basis and drive behind my work.
My interest in Psychology developed early on during my time in the Royal Navy while completing my Junior Staff Course at the Royal Naval College in Greenwich. This is where I was introduced to Norman Dixon's book 'The Psychology of Military Incompetence' and Sun Tzu's book on the 'Art of War'. The former provided some understanding about Ego and the later, insight into the thinking and manoeuvring of your opposition. My naval career was spent mainly at sea on the frontline, and I was fortunate to serve on nine ships and saw action in five conflicts. This experience provided a very unique opportunity to closely observe the leadership styles and decision-making processes of people in Command and the way they thought and acted under pressure.
The seed planted on Junior Staff Course, finally had the chance to grow and blossom when I retired from service life in 2008. And, by way of another separate story, I also discovered I had an ability to 'trance' and relax people. This gift, combined with my long-held interest in Psychology, lead me to hypnotherapy and a new and exciting second career.
On leaving the Royal Navy, I was blessed to have found two remarkable instructors, who have taken me under their wing. Gloria Hammett (coach to Paul McKenna) and Tina Taylor (Master trainer for Richard Bandler) and together they are the founders of the International College of Clinical Hypnotherapy (ICCH). They have shown unbelievable patience and tremendous encouragement to nurture and hone my raw talent and basic skills and expose me to range of techniques to help others through the power of hypnosis. Hypnotherapy is a beautiful and gently way to help people change their thinking, that leads to changes in their behaviour, which results in changes in the quality of their lives.
I have since added to these skills with qualification, experience and knowledge about;
* Mindfulness: I am Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) qualified and was an eModulator for Leiden University Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) 'Demystifying Mindfulness' programme.
* Positive Psychology: I hold certificates from Dr. Martin Seligman and Professor Barbara Fredrickson courses and I draw on Resilience, Optimism and Positivity techniques.
* Mindset: I hold a qualification from both Portsmouth University and Carol Dweck's course on the understanding of Fixed & Growth Mindsets.
* Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP): I will also call on a number of NLP techniques taught to me by Richard Bandler's (co-creator of NLP) Master NLP Trainer Tina Taylor.
I hope knowing about My Story, helps you understand why, I relish being able to help others make the changes they want in their life and for them to be able to live the life they really want.
