The Hummingbird Project

The Hummingbird Project Hummingbird is an innovative, non-profit that provides mental health skills and support.

Lead by lived experience experts, it delivers authentic, measurable impact across Northern Ireland. The Hummingbird Project challenges itself, staff and Partners to constantly focus on providing impactful change to the mental health of workplaces and communities. If it isn’t something that we are proud of, that is proven to elevate people’s circumstances, we simply don’t do it. Our lived experience background gives us the passion, ownership and authenticity to innovate and go the extra mile. We KNOW that if a person can invest in, understand and protect their emotional health, as society does with physical health, everyone can become emotionally resilient. We CAN support those who have become emotionally unwell to co-create solutions for themselves, alongside appropriate medical intervention to recover. The journey of our clients, feedback of our partners and enthusiasm from our funders push us forward to continue to bring mental health out of the shadows. Any service we provide is lean, accountable and measurable- the highest impact in the most sustainable way. Our clients and commissioners become our best ambassadors, because they have experienced first-hand the difference that we co-create with them.

Back to School day! 🫣 We hope everyone had a lovely summer and now that everyone is back at school we are excited to announce the overall winner of our Open your mind Schools project!

Every day throughout the Open week, hundreds of attendees visited our exhibit, with all of your amazing projects on show. They allowed us to spark amazing conversations about our area, how talented our young people are and how important looking after your emotional wellbeing is.

The votes kept coming and after every vote was counted, we had an overall winner…🥁🥁🥁🥁

Carnalridge Primary School!!!

Thank you all so much for your hard work and inspiring projects. We will be in touch with the Schools that participated later in the week about your projects but meantime 3 cheers for CARNALRIDGE!!!

Not only did you get the most votes, but 2 of your old alumni reconnected over your project after years of not seeing each other (see photo!) 🥰

Well that’s a wrap for the 153rd at Royal Portrush. It feels just like when a wedding is over, when you wish you could go back and enjoy every minute of it all over again.

What an extraORDINARY week we’ve had and here’s just some of the images as we look back on an absolutely fantastic experience and campaign for our new Hummingbird Causeway charity.

We cannot thank the &A enough for giving us the opportunity to provide advice, information and raise awareness on mental health issues among some of the 280,000 golf fans attending the event.

Also praise to all our volunteers who ‘manned’ the tent and talked about all things mental health and wellbeing, and for showcasing our fantastic school childrens’ artwork about the import role sport plays in mental fitness.

To the shortbread makers, and master chocolatiers and all who donated to help us raise funds so we can provide even more vital mental health services in the Causeway Coast and Glens area, we salute you.

As well as our amazing followers for all the likes and shares and engagement. We wouldn’t be where we are today without you.

Last but not least a big shout out to our Hummingbird cardboard cutout. Between you and the hawks, the Portrush seagulls have been checking in for some of our special brand of lived experience psychotherapy.

Last day at 😲. Everyone is coming in to watch a certain homegrown talent tee off this afternoon- but as they pass, there is opportunity to see some more stars of the show, the wonderful School exhibits, here in the Sunscreen tent near Gate 2.

Local school children’s artwork has been the talk of among visitors to the tent and we are so proud to have showcased their talent across the week. Thank you to each and every child and school who took part, helping us to raise awareness and funds for Hummingbird Causeway’s very first campaign.

For those who haven’t been, please come and have a look before the curtains close on this incredible golfing extravaganza and if you would like to support us, follow the link here.

As draws to a close today, we’d like to thank our local and regional press for all their support of our new Hummingbird Causeway mental health charity and our first major fund and awareness raising campaign .

We’ve been here all week engaging with some of the 280,000 golf fans talking all things mental health and emotional wellbeing.

Thanks to articles, like this in Friday’s Newsletter, we’ve been able to reach even more people across NI. has given us an amazing platform this week and we are grateful the &A has recognised the benefits of the services we provide to individuals and the wider community. Thank you.

Also to Helen McGurk for this wonderful article and to Sunday Life, the Belfast Telegraph, BBCNI, the Frank Mitchell Show on U105 and Downtown Radio and Cool FM. Wow! What a week.

It’s all hands on deck this week for the Portstewart-based Hummingbird Project and its new charitable arm, Hummingbird Causeway, as they bring their unique blend of mental health services to some 280,000 golf fans attending this week’s Open at Royal Portrush.
