Behind the scenes at the 2025 Care Awards!
What an incredible day it’s been so far! After all the planning and preparations, it’s wonderful to see the venue filled with inspiring people from across CareTech Children’s Services.
The Care Awards celebrate the dedication, compassion, and impact of those who make a real difference every day, and today has truly reflected that spirit.

At Cambian Hill House School, sustainability is part of everyday learning. From Eco Cabin activities and mindful outdoor moments to student-led Green Dragons’ Den projects and pond conservation with our local partners, our students are hands-on in caring for the planet.
This year’s theme is Rescue Me, a reminder that every item we recycle has a second life waiting to be saved.
Here are some simple ways you can help:
- Rinse bottles before recycling
- Reuse paper or compost where possible
- Encourage friends and family to recycle correctly
Small actions add up. While around 80% of household waste could be recycled, only about 45% currently is. Together, we can help bridge that gap.

This Youth Mental Health Day, we’re inviting young people to explore their emotions in a new way.
This year’s theme, Share Support, is all about connecting with others, sharing experiences, and accessing practical tools to support mental health.
Our rainbow-themed activity uses colour and conversation to help children express feelings in a safe, playful way, perfect to do together with parents, friends or classmates, making it easier to share, be heard, and feel supported.
Because every feeling matters.

With 20 years of Outstanding Ofsted recognition, Cambian Whinfell School is trusted for its consistent, high-quality care and education.
From the very start, every young person works closely with Whinfell’s clinical, education, and care teams to create a bespoke, step-by-step plan, ensuring they feel understood, supported, and confident as they settle in.
This plan focuses on:
- Building strong, trusting relationships
- Understanding each child’s unique needs and strengths
- Developing a curriculum tailored to their EHCP
- Adapting support as things change, because progress isn’t always predictable
This tailored approach means that every child’s journey is respected, nurtured, and shaped around their individual needs, helping them thrive at their own pace while giving parents/carers reassurance and peace of mind.
As we look forward to celebrating the incredible achievements of our staff next week, we’re taking a moment to reflect on last year’s event.
In 2024, John Reidy was named as our Overall Winner for Children’s Services, a recognition of his outstanding commitment and the positive impact he has made.
Here’s just one example of the appreciation John inspired last year:
“Whilst I am new to the company, I have never known support like that provided by John.
He is professional and friendly; I know where I stand and I know what is expected of me. I am proud to say I have a manager that knows what he is doing and this is evident in the support he has offered to the home.”

We’re delighted to share that we have been shortlisted for the Excellence in Children’s Services category at the LaingBuisson Awards 2025, taking place on the 20th of November at a gala celebration in London.
Now in their 20th year, the LaingBuisson Awards honour organisations that set new benchmarks of excellence in health and social care. We are incredibly proud to receive this nomination, which is a testament to the dedication, passion, and hard work of our amazing staff across all our schools and colleges.

Cambian is one of the largest providers of specialist education and behavioural health services for children in the UK. Our services have a specific focus on individuals who present with high severity needs.
We provide a broad range of specialist services across England and Wales. These services include specialist education schools and colleges for both day and residential learners, residential care homes and a therapeutic fostering service.
Our specialist education schools and colleges support children and young people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Asperger Syndrome (AS), moderate to severe learning disabilities, associated challenging behaviours and complex needs.
Our specialist residential care homes support children with social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH) and associated complex needs. We provide care, therapy and education for a discrete cohort of needs within these homes; this includes provisions for children who have experienced Complex Trauma (neglect and abuse), those who have been sexually exploited, and those with a learning disability. These homes are all supported by specialists schools to support their individual educational needs.
We also run a therapeutic fostering service through which we are able to support children with a variety of complex needs within a family environment.
We recognise that each child is an individual with their own needs, desires and dreams, and we are fully committed to supporting each child to enable them to achieve ‘their personal best’.
