When one of our young people first joined Cambian Whinfell School as a residential student, he arrived feeling anxious, overwhelmed, and unsure about what the future might hold. At first he struggled to leave his bedroom, school felt like an impossible challenge and believing in himself felt even harder.

At Whinfell we believe in connections before corrections. Our dedicated team takes the time to truly understand each young person, helping them move forward at their own pace.

Step by step, with encouragement and care, he started to believe in himself and see just how bright his future could be. He felt safe and secure at Whinfell and as a result began to enjoy his learning and went on to earn all of his GCSE’S.

Michelle Turner, Head of Education at Whinfell School, shares his remarkable journey a story that reminds us why we do what we do every single day.

Whinfell School has been rated Outstanding by Ofsted for 5 consecutive inspections! To learn more about the exceptional care and education provided by Whinfell click here: https://bit.ly/3TqFVnh

Christmas Comes Early to Cambian Northampton School

The Northampton Chronicle & Echo has featured a wonderful story about the young people at Cambian Northampton School and their festive trip to Welford Christmas Tree Farm!

This year, students visited Welford Christmas Tree Farm to choose a beautiful Norway spruce for their school celebrations and the best part? After Christmas, the tree will be repurposed for woodworking lessons, giving students a hands-on opportunity to learn new skills.

As Jayden shared, “I can’t wait to decorate the tree… and I’m really excited to build something amazing with the wood after Christmas!”

CareTech Awards Children’s Services National Winner

A huge congratulations to our 2025 Children’s Services National Winner, Joshua Barreto!

Josh, a West Residential Support Worker, truly embodies CareTech’s values in everything he does. This year, he was nominated for two Care Awards winning The Children’s Champion Award and being jointly nominated with colleague Laura Hutson for the Michael Hill Award.

Josh’s dedication has shone brightly throughout 2025. He he has consistently gone above and beyond: seeking specialist guidance, forging partnerships with a charity, coordinating impactful training for colleagues, and even leading fundraising efforts to expand vital support for young people.

His blend of empathy, leadership, and proactive action has made a remarkable difference, not only to the young people in his care, but to the entire team.

We’re incredibly proud to celebrate Josh as our National 2025 Children’s Services Winner.

On World Children’s Day, we celebrate the rights, voices, and limitless potential of every young person. It’s a powerful reminder that all children deserve to feel valued, supported, and respected - not just today, but every day.

At Cambian, this belief is brought to life through incredible individuals like Bernadette Harker, whose dedication embodies what this day stands for. Bernadette, Head of Student Development at Cambian New Elizabethan School, was recently recognised as a regional winner of the Children’s Champion Award at the CareTech Care Awards.

Her tireless commitment, compassion, and drive to help young people thrive make her an inspiration to us all.

Today, we celebrate all those who, like Bernadette, dedicate their work to creating brighter futures for children everywhere. Together, we continue to build a world where young people can live, learn, and thrive with dignity, joy, and purpose.

We’re celebrating the incredible, long-standing partnership between Hill House School and Southampton FC a collaboration that continues to inspire and energise every student involved.

Each week, a dedicated coach from the club visits Hill House to deliver fun, skills-based sessions. While football takes centre stage, the young people also get stuck into basketball, cricket, and plenty of team challenges, all packed with energy, laughter, and learning.

Sessions are designed with flexibility in mind, allowing everyone to join in at their own pace. The coach tailors each activity to meet individual needs, ensuring that every young person can experience success, confidence, and joy through sport.

Our young people from Cambian Wisbech School and Brook View School took part in Remembrance Day activities, honouring those who have served and sacrificed for our freedom.

At Brook View, Purple Class thoughtfully created their own wreaths, beautiful collage poppies, visited their local war memorial and the whole school took part in a 1 minute silence.

Meanwhile, students from Wisbech’s Dragon, Dolphin, and Minnows class walked to their local memorial for the 11:00AM service, where they laid their wreaths with pride and respect.

Through moments of reflection, creativity, and community spirit, our young people demonstrated heartfelt appreciation and understanding of the importance of remembrance.

About Cambian

Cambian is one of the largest providers of specialist education and behavioural health services for children in the UK. Our services have a specific focus on individuals who present with high severity needs.

We provide a broad range of specialist services across England and Wales. These services include specialist education schools and colleges for both day and residential learners, residential care homes and a therapeutic fostering service.

Our specialist education schools and colleges support children and young people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Asperger Syndrome (AS), moderate to severe learning disabilities, associated challenging behaviours and complex needs.

Our specialist residential care homes support children with social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH) and associated complex needs. We provide care, therapy and education for a discrete cohort of needs within these homes; this includes provisions for children who have experienced Complex Trauma (neglect and abuse), those who have been sexually exploited, and those with a learning disability. These homes are all supported by specialists schools to support their individual educational needs.
