Solution Focused Hypnotherapy combines forward thinking talking psychotherapy (taking elements of SFBT, CBT and NLP) and hypnosis and is a very modern and up to date approach based on the latest neuroscience. We work on moving forward and helping you to become the best version of yourself again, without the need to dwell on the past or focus on the problem. We focus on helping you to find solutions, reduce anxiety and stress levels (all of which contribute to many other conditions), as well as changing behaviours and unhelpful thinking patterns. 🪄 I’ve heard so many myths and misconceptions about hypnotherapy over the years…

Hypnotherapy isn’t a belief system, it isn’t mystical, and it certainly isn’t magic. It’s grounded in neuroscience and psychology and it works because your brain is capable of change, if you are ready and willing to change.

Here are the most common misunderstandings I hear:

❌ “It’s a quick fix.”
Hypnotherapy isn’t a magic wand. You have to be ready to engage and make changes. It’s a collaborative process, typically 6-14 sessions on average (sometimes more). Be cautious of anyone promising a one session miracle.

❌ “It’s mind control.”
No one can control your mind but you. Hypnosis is a completely natural state we drift in and out of every day, like when you’re driving and can’t quite remember the journey. In that focused state, we can access the subconscious to process information and strengthen new neural pathways. It feels more like daydreaming and you could open your eyes and walk out at any point (if you wanted to!).

❌ “There’s no talking involved.”
Hypnotherapy is still therapy. It’s part talking therapy, part hypnosis (hence the name 😉).

❌ “I’ll be put to sleep or be ‘out of it.’”
You’re not asleep and you’re never out of control. If you feel “floaty,” it’s simply deep relaxation. You’re aware, comfortable, and in control the entire time.

❌ “It’s only for quitting habits.”
While it can absolutely help with habits, most of my clients come for anxiety, low mood, stress, overwhelm, confidence or poor sleep.

There are many types of hypnotherapy, just like there are different types of therapy. Solution Focused Hypnotherapy combines forward-focused psychotherapy, neuroscience and hypnosis. We focus on helping you move forward, understand how your brain works and learn how to work with it, not against it 💪💚.

A client said to me recently…,
“I don’t feel like I should be stressed.”

But why not?! We’re juggling work, families, expectations, constant notifications, pressure to “do better”, “be better”, “cope better”.

If you’re living in 2026, it’s unlikely that there’s not some element of stress in your life.

The goal isn’t to eliminate stress completely. It’s to understand it. And stop shaming yourself for feeling it.

You’re not weak for feeling stressed. You’re human.

The real work is learning how to move your brain out of survival mode and back into calm, rational thinking mode.

And that’s something you can absolutely learn 💚.

Overstimulated.

“Why don’t I feel like myself anymore?”

Your brain isn’t broken.

When you’ve had a huge life change, a disrupted routine, very little sleep and zero time for yourself… your brain can get stuck in fight or flight.

That’s when:

✨Everything feels harder than it should.

The good news?

You don’t need a new life.

✨FAQ- Is there homework alongside sessions?✨

I’ll ask you to:

• Listen to your hypnosis track every night as you go to sleep (and again if you wake in the night).
• Spend a few minutes each day journalling the good things that have happened and what you’ve achieved, even the small wins.

These aren’t random tasks. They directly support what we’re doing in session. Repetition strengthens neural pathways. The hypnosis supports calm, restorative sleep and reinforces the direction we’re working towards. The journalling trains your brain to notice progress, capability and positives, which is how we gently rebalance the brain’s natural negative bias 🧠.

The more committed and engaged you are, not just during your sessions, but between them, the stronger your results will be.

Therapy isn’t just one hour a week. It’s what you do in the other 167 hours that really embeds change.

When you:
• Listen consistently.
• Implement the small goals we set.
• Practise the tools we discuss.
• Make manageable, sustainable adjustments.

…that’s when you start to see real shifts.

I’ll guide you and support you but lasting change comes from consistent action. And the good news? The actions are small. They just need to be done regularly.

It never stops surprising me that people still imagine hypnotherapy is about being “put under”, losing control or being made to do something.

Here are the actual facts ✔️

You are awake.
You are aware.
You are in control.

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is about helping your brain feel safe, calm and able to think clearly again. It’s neuroscience, psychology and gentle relaxation working together , not stage tricks!

Most people leave sessions feeling lighter, more hopeful and better equipped to handle life.

So yes… be careful 😉

Unregulated does not automatically mean untrained, unsafe or unprofessional.

What it actually means is that you need to look at the individual practitioner.

Their qualification.
Their experience.
Their supervision.
Their CPD.
Their insurance.
Their accountability.

Because many of us have invested years in high level training and continue to work to strict professional standards long after qualifying.

So instead of writing off an entire profession, ask better questions 💚

Any reputable therapist will be happy to answer them.

Welcome to Songbird Hypnotherapy!

Songbird Hypnotherapy is a Solution Focused Hypnotherapy practice based in Biggleswade, Bedfordshire. We are situated just off the A1 and are in easy access of towns located within Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire. The practice is also in walking distance from Biggleswade train station. We are also able to work with you online if you would prefer or are not in travelling distance of the practice.

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is the only hypnotherapy under scientific study, producing amazing results. It is the gold standard of hypnotherapy, focusing on the solution, not dwelling on the past. A highly effective and safe form of talking pyschotherapy combined with relaxation techniques, based entirely on neuroscience.

We specialise in supporting people suffering from a range of symptoms and helping them to get their lives back on track, finding their true selves and their own harmony in the process.
