Maureen the ‘Stir Fry Queen’ sees huge benefits from Slimming World – could you be next?

Wyre residents are being encouraged to take advantage of a fully funded 12-week Slimming World membership through Wyre Council’s weight management programme, designed to help people lose weight and improve their health and wellbeing.
Slimming World hosts over 35 groups at 14 different venues across every corner of Wyre. These welcoming groups provide a supportive environment for those looking to make sustainable lifestyle changes, and the results can be life-changing – as Maureen from Preesall knows all too well.

When Maureen first joined her local Slimming World group, she was referred by her doctors at Over Wyre Medical Centre. At the time, she faced significant mobility challenges, relied on walking aids, and struggled with breathing difficulties. Her goal was simple: to lose weight and improve her health.

Maureen had never been a Slimming World member before, but she quickly discovered the joy of eating delicious, satisfying meals while still losing weight. Fast forward to today and Maureen has lost an incredible 3 and a half stone! She no longer needs any walking aids, her breathing has improved dramatically, and she recently enjoyed walking her dog on holiday – something she never thought possible.

Her transformation has been life changing, and the community of Slimming World has played a huge role in her journey. Maureen is a much-loved member of the group, always encouraging others and sharing her passion for healthy cooking. She even earned the title of “Stir Fry Queen” after winning a ceramic wok in a raffle and discovering a love for fresh, fat-free meals. Councillor Lynne Bowen, Portfolio Holder for Leisure, Health and Community Engagement, said:

“Maureen’s story is truly inspiring and shows how small changes can make a huge difference to someone’s life. We’re proud to support residents through our weight management programme, giving them the tools and confidence to improve their health and wellbeing. If you think you might qualify, please visit our website to self-refer or ask your GP or health provider to refer you. This could be the start of your own success story.”

If you’d like to lose weight, feel healthier and more confident like Maureen, visit www.wyre.gov.uk/weightmanagement to check if you qualify for a fully funded 12-week Slimming World referral.
