There are 6 types of Behavioural States. 3 sleep states and 3 wakefulness states. The 3 sleep startes are: Deep sleep, Light sleep and Drowsiness. And the 3 wakfulness states are quiet alert, active alert and crying.

Knowing your sleep and wake states can help you understand your newborn's needs and cues, allowing you to learn how to best respond to their cues and support their development and stability.

Pathways and Connections. During development, your baby has built numerous connections and pathways. So now your baby has all these different pathways, but only one of them is actually going to be used. It only has a purpose. And they have all these connections that just aren't needed.

Pruning, something that happens regularly throughout our lives. This is when synapses disconnect. When learning something new, and there are pathways we no longer need, we disconnect them. And there are also specific times in our lives where we go through this process of pruning.

Continue to develop more, arm yourself with the knowledge of your baby's development.

Now at 3 to 4 months, what developments are your little ones having?

Well you can expect to see them reaching out to try and hit or grab toys hanging from a playmat. You will see them reach out. And miss. Ten reach out in a different way. And ... they miss. With each time they reach out to hit or grab the toys, they are making pathways. Connections are being built.

Continue to prepare for parenthood or even learn as our little one does. Follow along as we aim to empower and arm parents with the power of knowledge.
