Yesterday evening, our Poulton-le-Fylde home, the Alexandra Nursing Home, opened its doors to the family and friends of residents. The event was a Q&A night with wine tasting.
Norman, Registered Manager at the Alexandra, says, ‘My team and I would like to extend our gratitude to all family members of residents who braved the dreadful weather to attend last night's event. It was a lovely evening where the warmth in our home contrasted with the cold night outside.’
The event was well-attended (despite the snow) and allowed family members to meet some of the superb Bayswood Care team, including Norman, Sarah (Group Training Manager), Precious (Alexandra Nurse), Tara (Alexandra’s clinical lead and end-of-life specialist), Ian (Activities Coordinator) and Kelly (Group Marketing Manager) – and ask questions about the home and plans.
Norman outlined his vision for the Alexandra including building improvements and mentioned the new team members who are joining the home. The overriding message was that, although Norman is delighted that improvements have been recognised by the CQC’s recent ‘Good’ rating, this is only the beginning. Continual improvements are ongoing, and Norman invited friends and family of residents to be part of that process through a system of listening and consultation. In other words, as Registered Manager, Norman operates an open-door policy.
Those who braved the cold were rewarded with an ‘Introduction to Wine Tasting’ by our WSET-qualified wine enthusiast, Kelly. Kelly took the audience through the tasting process and demystified some of the misconceptions that relate to wine tasting and wine pairings with food.
The evening was a fantastic success and enjoyed by all those who attended.
Norman pointed out that the real heroes were the carers and nurses who worked away caring for residents at the end of their shifts while the event was taking place. We should never forget that fact.
