Why get a Mummy MOT with a certified Mummy MOT practitioner?

A Mummy MOT is a postnatal check-up designed specifically for women after childbirth to assess how their body is recovering. Here’s why getting one is beneficial:

1. Pelvic floor check – It assesses muscle strength and helps prevent issues like incontinence or prolapse.

2. Abdominal separation – Checks for diastasis recti (abdominal muscle separation), which is common after pregnancy.

3. Posture and alignment – Pregnancy can shift your posture, and a Mummy MOT helps correct imbalances.

4. Pain management – Identifies and treats lingering pain in the back, hips, or pelvis.

5. Tailored rehab plan – You get personalized exercises and advice to rebuild strength safely.

It’s not just for women experiencing issues—it’s for any mum who wants to heal properly and feel strong again!

✨ Healing Beyond the Surface ✨

Scars are more than just marks—they’re reminders of our journey. Whether it’s from surgery, an injury, or acne, everyone has their own story to tell. 🌱

But with the right scar therapy, healing isn’t just physical; it can be emotional too. Scar treatments like silicone gels, massage, and lymphatouch therapy can help reduce the appearance of scars, restoring not just your skin, but your function and confidence. 💪💖

Remember, the healing process takes time, and you deserve to feel good in your skin—every step of the way.

Did you know we offer Lymphatouch treatment here at ?

What is LymphaTouch for Scar Therapy?

LymphaTouch is a medical device which produces a negative pressure, or vacuum, on the skin to stimulate lymphatic drainage and treat scars.

Controlling the negative pressure allows us to work with your body to help remove excess fluid from the tissues and improve healing and overall health and well-being.

How does LymphaTouch work?

On the Lymphatic system: The system drains and removes excess fluid from the tissues. Think of it as a waste removal system – where your blood system delivers the goodness, the lymphatics take out the badness!

Unlike the blood system, the lymphatics don’t have a natural pump, like the heart, meaning flow can stall and swelling can develop.

To re-start or stimulate lymphatic flow, LymphaTouch gently lifts the skin. This creates a negative pressure under the skin causing the lymphatic vessels to dilate (open up) making it easier for the system to take in the excess fluid.

Think of it like the plug in a sink 🛀

– LymphaTouch simply makes the plug bigger.
By dilating the lymphatic vessels, more fluid can enter the system which increases the flow and therefore reduces the swelling or excess fluid in the area.

Benefits of LymphaTouch

* Improved lymphatic function
* Healthier skin and tissue appearance
* Drainage of waste products/toxins
* Reduced oedema
* Improved function of scars

15/08/2024

🌸After your C-section birth you will more than likely have some swelling around the scar (this is perfectly normally - you’ve just had major surgery). Once this swelling goes down, you may find you have a “shelf” “over hang” “pouch”, over the top of your scar, you may also have one underneath.

🌺Within the first few months this could still be a mixture of loose skin (your tum has stretched to grow a baby), fat (perfectly normal), and some inflammation ... on top of that your body now has a scar. Your body is working SUPER hard to heal.

🌼The “overhang” is generally the FIRST thing new mums want GONE and is always the LAST THING to go....

🌷So how do you get rid of it? First things first it is NOT a quick fix.... But you can try these things....

🌻Check for any diastasis recti (tummy separation) as this will change the appearance of your tummy and strength of your core.
🌻 Stay well hydrated. Drink plenty of water (around 2litres if you can, plus a little extra if you are breast feeding)... having your tissues well hydrated will help your scar, your tummy and general healing.
🌻Strengthening, doing the CORRECT exercises at this time will help you feel stronger and help with the overall feeling of your tummy. This may include gentle breathing, pelvic floor work and abdominal work.

🌻SCAR MASSAGE, it is really important to keep your scar soft and mobile, so it’s not so pinned in (this will reduce the look of your “over hang”). You can start scar massage at 6 weeks.

❤️ As specialist Pelvic Health Physiotherapists we are experts when it comes to your post c-section recovery. So if you are worried or concerned. Or just want that little bit of extra help please do get in touch. You may want to book in for a treatment with as this device can be used in conjunction with scar massage to help soften, release, reduce pain and help with the over hang.

A c-section is a big operation, this means it’s really important to take it easy in the first few weeks. In top of that you will more than likely be sleep deprived and learning to look after a tiny human!
These are our top tips:
1. Avoid constipation
Constipation can cause you to strain which is not good for your pelvic floor and will also put pressure on your wound.
2. Painkillers
It is important to keep pain under control. If you feel that the medication that you’ve been discharged with isn’t doing the job, speak to your GP.
3. Look out for Infection
Common signs of infection are: oozing from the wound, fever, redness warmth around the incision and or an offensive smell. If you are worried or not sure if you have an infection do speak to your GP.
4. Gentle movement
Light/ comfortable movement will aid recovery but don’t go mad! Stick to walking and gradually increase distance according to your comfort levels.
5. Accept Help
If you’ve got help around you, make the most of it!
6. Rest
Easier said than done! But take every opportunity that you can, sleep aids healing.

We hope this helps 💜 if you have any questions or want more guidance with your recover, please do get in touch.
