We had such a wonderful day celebrating the Summer Solstice.
We commenced the morning with an outdoor armchair folk dance and some garden games. Lunch was a BBQ style buffet. Then we listened to the story of Summer Solstice and shared memories of our own summers gone by.
It was wonderful to be joined by our intergenerational ambassador Eddie, he did such a fantastic job of setting up the games, inspiring people to join in, and he even got stuck in serving the buffet.
During the afternoon, we watched Alexander Ekman's contemporary ballet Midsummer. The performance explores themes around the aspect of midsummer and its traditional Swedish midsummer festival.
We were lucky enough to have a live chat with professional dancer Tianie, who is currently on tour in Germany and Seville. It was so much fun to see everyone dressing up for the occasion, including our regional manager Faye, who was a great sport dressing up as a sunflower alongside our manager Mike.
Local student photographer Jazzmin Daisy sent us some of the beautiful sunset photos she had taken around our local area. June painted her own sun set using one of her shots for inspiration.
To achieve our goal of the longest ever running activity, the people living with us were invited to stay up in our garden to watch the sunset just after 10pm. We were joined by Nala, one of our therapy dogs, and we star gazed with our new telescope, and shared a bottle of fizz whilst listening to music including "sunrise sunset" from Fiddler on the roof. It was a relaxing and uplifting moment and a wonderful experience to share. Here's to doing it all again next year!
