It's not every day I get invited to a private luncheon at Claridge's, in the presence of an HRH. In fact I thought it was a scam and tore the invite up and threw it in the bin. I had to retrieve it and sellotape it together when Claridges contacted me to confirm!

I was very honoured to be asked to attend, along with 8 other professionals in the health and wellness industry, to share my knowledge on diet, lifestyle and healthy ageing. I met some really interesting people and Prince Michael of Kent was lovely.

The whole Claridge's experience was surreal - there's even someone in the toilets to turn the taps on for you and pass you a towel! Unfortunately, security was very tight and our phones had to be turned off so no photos of the day, but the memories will live in my heart forever 🄰

Sugar is a drug. A legal one, fair enough. Did you know that there are 56 different ways of describing sugar on food labels? Some of them even sound like drugs - Florida crystals anyone?

In a 2013 study, researchers found that - in rats - Oreo cookies were just as addictive as co***ne. (The rats ate the creamy filling first too, by the way).

Chances are that, even if you think you are being 'good' most of the time, you are hooked. I'm on a mission to help people break free from sugar and feel amazing.

THE WHOLE FAMILY CAN DO THIS WITH YOU!

Going sugar free isn’t something you need to do on your own. The whole family can take part. The secret here is in how you position it. There’s no sense announcing a blanket sugar ban. That’s cue for a rebellion. But through the challenge, I’ll be sharing some cunning tricks to help the whole thing go smoothly.

And here’s why you’ll want to get the kids involved…
British children are some of biggest consumers of sugar in Europe. They’re pretty much eating their body weight in sugar each year.

A study by scientists at Birmingham University found that children are consuming an average of 75g of sugar a day (the equivalent of 19 teaspoons). That’s four times their recommended daily allowance. Small wonder that sugar has been singled out as the biggest contributing factor in the national obesity crisis.

It’s also blamed for a rise of nearly a quarter in the number of children under four having to have one or more of their milk teeth extracted. Sugar creates imbalances in energy that can contribute to erratic behaviour and mood changes, and paves the way towards type 2 diabetes.
I’m not telling you this to scare you. Think of it as a wake-up call.

Are you addicted to sugar? How many of these resonate with you?

You consume certain foods even if you are not hungry because of cravings.
You worry about cutting down on certain foods.
You feel sluggish or fatigued (especially from overeating).
You need more and more of the foods you crave to experience any pleasure or reduce negative emotions.

Ditching your sugar habit is one of the quickest ways to drop a few pounds and feel more energised than ever. But I know from experience that it can feel hard without the right information and support.

THIS IS HOW BAD SUGAR IS…

Next week I’m launching a sugar free challenge in my group Thrive, shine and succeed. Going sugar free is the quickest way to lose weight and feel full of energy.

While it’s true, a little of what you fancy does you good, most of us have way too much of the sweet stuff in our lives.
