Yesterday I delivered an 'Emergency First Aid at Work' course in Meliden at The Studio gym. Thank you to for the hire of the venue.

The Annie's tried out some of the gym equipment - apparently it was very comfortable.

πŸŽ„ Stay Safe This Festive Season!πŸŽ„

The holiday season is a time for joy and celebration, but accidents can happen when we least expect them.

Here are some essential first aid tips to keep you and your loved ones safe this Christmas:

1. Kitchen Safety: Watch out for cuts and burns while preparing your holiday feast. Keep a first aid kit handy with bandages and remember, if you do burn yourself, 20mins under cold tap then wrap in cling film.

2. Decorating Dangers: Be cautious when hanging decorations. Use a stable ladder and have someone assist you to prevent falls.

3. Winter Woes: With icy conditions, slips and falls are more common. Ensure pathways are clear of ice and snow, and know how to treat sprains and fractures.

4. Fire Hazards: Keep candles, fireplaces, and lights in check. Note that if a burn/blister is bigger than your palm - seek medical attention.

5. Emergency Contacts: Have emergency numbers saved on your phone and know the location of the nearest hospital, especially if you are away from home.

According to a British Red Cross study conducted by the University of Manchester, 59% of deaths from injuries could be prevented if First Aid been carried out before emergency medical services arrived.

Yet only 5% of adults (one in 20) say they are confident and willing enough to take action in potentially life-threatening emergencies.

Providing First Aid can also have a big impact on a person’s chances of recovery.

Giving help early can mean the difference between someone having a short term disability or a more permanent one.

Something we get asked all the time - What do you get for your First Aid kit?

Swipe through for our basic list πŸ™Œ There are a few more items to add like scissors (for cutting gauze or clothing), eye wash, safety pins and many more but we kept it simple to give you an idea.

What do you have in yours?

Still unsure as to where to start? Highly recommend doing a First Aid Needs Assessment which will give you a better idea as to what you need.

Conducting a First Aid Needs Assessment is crucial for determining the appropriate first aid provisions for your specific workplace.

If your assessment concluded that a first aider is not necessary, appointing a person to manage first aid arrangements is a great alternative. πŸ‘

What would an appointed person do?

This appointed person would be responsible for maintaining first aid equipment, ensuring facilities are in order, and contacting emergency services when needed. They don't need formal training, but having some basic knowledge can be beneficial.

Do you currently have an appointed person in your workplace, or are you in the process of selecting one?
