This morning I had the pleasure of working alongside the staff and children at Stoneygate Nursery School supporting both the 2–3 year olds and the 3–4 year olds.
Alongside studying towards my Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, I have been developing and refining my CPD in Action programme for EYFS settings. Having now worked across a wide range of environments — from childminder settings to maintained nursery schools like this one and everything in between — one of my biggest takeaways has been this:
👉 The impact on practitioners is HUGE!
Working alongside a Physical Development Specialist makes a real, tangible difference.
So often, CPD can be a sit, listen and leave experience … but CPD in Action is different.
This is CPD where:
👨👩👧👧Children and staff are learning together
👣Everyone is doing, moving, exploring and joining in
👋Learning happens through first-hand, meaningful experiences
🧘♀️Practice is supported in the moment, not weeks later
🤸♂️The children receive rich movement experiences — learning what their bodies can and can’t do yet, learning through play, feeling regulated and supporting both their physical and emotional wellbeing.
But just as importantly …
✨ The staff are learning too:
Practitioners are:
🌈 Trying out new resources and set ups
👩🎓 Being coached and supported
💭 Exploring new strategies
🫶 Gathering practical ideas they can embed immediately
👱Working in the moment, with real children they know well from their own settings
It’s a win, win, win, win, win! 🎉
✔️ It supports children
✔️ It empowers practitioners
✔️ It’s cost-effective
✔️ It’s time-efficient
✔️ It works within your setting and your routines
Quite frankly — there should be more of it! ✨️
As I now dive deeper into the land of research and dissertation, my delivery hours are more limited … but the gains remain HUGE for the settings I work alongside ... shout outs to forward thinking settings who have got involved with our movement mission this term ... Nursery School, Davis daycare, Fulwood Childcare, Cherry Tots, Gemma Tyrer Childminding Blackwell to name a few!
Today, the Stoneygate children went on a jungle adventure — learning through play, moving with confidence, having fun… and they were absolutely fantastic 🌿🐒
Physical Development is a PRIME area.
That means it’s one of THE most important foundations for learning.
Settings that prioritise physical development are leading the way — because children don’t just learn to move .…
👉 they move to learn 🤸♂️🤸♂️🤸♂️
Have a think about that one!
I currently have limited availability and am focusing on delivering CPD in Action over the coming year. At present, I am only able to work with settings in PR1, PR2 and some PR5 areas and of course at our Monday Flying Start Group
If you are a forward-thinking EYFS setting and would like CPD that enhances the brilliant work you already do, I’d love to hear from you
