The Pain Detective

The Pain Detective Kim has worked as an injury specialist for over 20 years, helping people understand their pain. And hope to continue doing so for many years to come.

My name is Kim Anscombe and I have been detecting and resolving pain through the use of my massage skills for over 20 years, helping people recover from both acute and chronic pain. The most important part of my job is getting to know my clients, asking questions which develop a conversation that unveils the complicated nature as to why they have made that first appointment. Symptoms can be as a r

esult of a minor injuries from decades ago which has developed, from rehabilitation difficulties following surgery or as a result major operations such as joint replacement, soft tissue reconstruction, disc fusion to name a few. The rehabilitation of soft tissue to avoid unnecesary build up of scar tissue post surgery is fundamental. Especially when you consider all the other factors that have to quickly adapt and simply may not beable to without help. Other treatment programmes related to Cancer, IBS and Crohn's, ME, Fibromyalgia and Menopause also benefit greatly from the more natural approach of soft tissue therapy (massage) and techniques I have developed to personalise every clients experience. I have seen incredible transformations in my clients’ understanding and well- being and take great pride in finding the root cause of my clients pain, often confused by the secondary symptoms. When looking after clients who gain a sport related injury, I draw upon my time as a professional athlete, understanding the need to remain active and positive when an injury takes hold. Providing my clients with the skills and confidence to take control of their injury / pain through a better understanding of what has happened and why. I am very lucky to have worked with some wonderful people over the last 20+ years, many of which have become lifelong friends.

Totally different race to last year on so many levels. Hail storms, gusts of  wind that could take you off your feet and so so 🥶.

Last year I finished the last 1/3 of the race with the lovely dawn, and she literally got me to the finish. This year we did the whole race together, keeping in touch the last 12mths and then keeping our promise to do it again 2026.

I am still chuckling about the photo you just shared of the sand dunes when we were doing wild wees, how despite our small stature you managed to be nearly taken out by a tree branch when we were going through a gate and ofcourse the holding hands and skipping on the beach for some photos 🤣😍.

Being asked if we were sisters was the best bit for me though. And ofcourse you responded with, I am the older and 0.5cm taller one 😉😂🥰.

Doing these events is about the adventure, the people you meet along the way and if you can, raising some money for a wonderful charity. Thanku hubby for helping get me to the start line, esp after such a turbulent week.

Looking forward to choosing our next event Dawn. Will I be brave enough to do the GBUltra Chester 50 miler next year? 😳

How I made it here I don't know! It has been a week of turbulence but having this goal and the opportunity to raise some money (because I have actually made it to registration) I am now sharing the deeds.

The weather forecast isn't the best but you never know ... mother nature might actually be kind to us and only wind or rain will appear during our race tomorrow.

SheUltra 2026 is going to be huge and I am over the moon to be doing it with Dawn (the whole way this time). Please donate if you can. More info ref charity via the link below

What did you do this weekend? For me, I went along to a local trail running event organised by Red Warrior. Distance 20k didn't know the elevation and finished middle of the pack after over 2,000ft of climbing. Lovely day out at Margam Park.

Great message to receive from my client whose mum had a knee replacement 4 weeks ago. She arrived in so much pain and walked away a very happy person.

Such a lovely family and yes I have looked after all of them at some point the last couple of years.

What did you get up to at the weekend? Doynton Hard Half was brutal on another scale. Adventure around every corner (and through every pond filled gateway). Slip and slide sound effects were in full swing.

So many climbs and descents and even more fun. Didn't take enough food with me and started really struggling at mile 11 but met the wonderful Martin and Maria who were helping tail runners get to the finish.

Martin offered me a cheeky biscoff biscuit which saved the day for me today, along with great company from both gently encouraging me to keep going. Knowing there was only 2 more fields/ponds to get through made the world of difference when you are that cold.

And then crossing the finish line with my wonderful kids Nathan Anscombe thank you for all your love and support today. My new Ronhill Reverence trainers are the business and totally saved me.

Wish to take a moment to say how much I have enjoyed helping everyone this year. As we celebrate this season of joy and gratitude, I am reminded just how lucky I am to work with such lovely people.

Wishing you a happy, healthy Xmas & New Year.
