You must have a driving licence and access to a vehicle.

“Is it too early to have carers visiting?”

This is a question that we are regularly asked.

She seems to be managing....
He still remembers the important things...
We don't know if they will agree....
I think they take their medication.....

But if you're asking the question, you've probably already recognised that something maybe isn't quite right.

Getting help early can stop niggles becoming problems. Getting help early can mean that the person has time to build trust and get used to carers visiting, then when care needs escalate, we're already in place and on hand to help.

Care visits can help

- Keep someone active and engaged
- Maintain hygiene and dignity
- Maintain or establish routines
- Reduce isolation
- Ease anxieties, especially in early stage
dementia
- Give families a break without guilt

Don't wait until it is overwhelming, we are not here to take over and remove independence, but we can support and help.

Care shouldn't ever be a "one size fits all" approach.

Everyone is different and the care that people receive should be tailored to their needs and their preferences.

As clients' needs change, it's important to adapt the care package to suit the current situation, maintaining dignity and quality of life.

We're very proud to receive such lovely feedback from a family member who's mum we cared for recently. We're so proud of the team who provided the care and for being so responsive to the changing needs.

There's been some encouraging news in Alzheimer’s research!
A recent study funded by Alzheimer's Society has identified a new contender in the fight against dementia: a shingles vaccine could potentially be repurposed to help treat or prevent Alzheimer's disease.

The shingles vaccine is already known to be safe and requires only a maximum of two doses and research now suggests that this can reduce the chance of developing dementia by 16%

This doesn’t mean we have a confirmed new treatment yet — more research and clinical trials are needed. As the experts involved stressed, drug-repurposing offers hope, but we must wait for solid trial results before changing treatment approaches.

At Caring Folk we believe in keeping up to date with dementia research — because every bit of hope matters for the people we support, and for families navigating care.
