🏆 1 Day to Go – St Mary’s Care Home Awards! 🏆

The wait is nearly over! Tomorrow evening in Durham, we’ll be coming together to honour the outstanding individuals and teams who make St Mary’s Care Homes so special.

What makes this event so important is that nominations are put forward by our residents, their families and our colleagues, recognising those who go above and beyond every day.

Rooted in our shared values of empathy, respect, teamwork, happiness and approachability, the awards are a chance to recognise the dedication and heart shown across our homes every day.

We’re looking forward to celebrating our finalists and enjoying a fantastic evening with everyone involved.

A relaxing weekend at Hutton Manor, reading the morning newspaper, a stroll through the park, coffee and cake with friends at the local cafe then crafts and dominoes in the afternoon. All our activities are person centred to ensure we provide the best possible environment for our residents. 💙💛

On Thursday to mark all this week’s cultural events, included the start of lent Chinese new year and Ramadan we held a culture day.
At the “all about me” activity we picked facts or questions from the hat to learn about other religions and traditions or to question our own beliefs.
We learnt so many interesting facts we never knew, which gave us a better understanding of other’s traditions beliefs and cultures.
In our afternoon fitness session we looked at dance from around the world, including Greek Russian Chinese and line dancing. We ended with some impromptu Morris dancing, even roping in our home Manager Zaneta!
The residents have commented on how much they enjoyed the whole day and have asked to have a weekly session to discuss other religions, you’re never too old to learn something new! 💙💛

Today as part of our culture week we celebrate the beginning of lent, by making Pancakes!
As part of our shrove Tuesday activity we had a pancake tossing competition! We then enjoyed the best part, eating the pancakes.
We also celebrated special a 90th birthday with presents cakes and balloons!

We’re pleased to announce the launch of a new Veterans Café at Hutton Manor Care Home, starting on Saturday 7 March 2026 and taking place on the first Saturday of each month between 10am and 12pm.

The café is a relaxed monthly social morning for veterans and members of the Armed Forces community, with free tea, coffee and refreshments. Branch members will be in attendance for a chat and to offer support where needed.

Today we were treated to a private concert performed by one of our amazing residents. She began to play and a crowd gathered to listen. “I’m a little rusty” she said. But we all thought she was amazing and had a wonderful afternoon

Fun and games at Hutton Manor!
Exercise doesn’t have to be boring it’s all about moving your body and having fun. This week we played ball games and skittles. Every week we try new things to keep the residents entertained and make sure we have fun along the way as well as keeping fit and active 💪🏻

With all the singers we’ve had recently we thought it was time to brush up on our dance moves 💃🏼🕺🏽 luckily Christine was on hand with her dance class, using movement and rhythm to excercise and keep fit!
Mr motivator has nothing on our Chris!
The residents loved the work out and even had enough energy left for a game of skittles!
