Police and Stab Proof vests

On Monday evening, I attended a Metropolitan Police Event and was able to try on one of their stab proof vests and utility belt. I must confess I had not fully appreciated the weight of them. Probably around 5kg or 3 bags of flour.

The officer told me that wearing one is not too bad - you get used to it, but having to run and chase a criminal is much harder.

I would be interested to find out if anyone has anecdotal evidence of the impact on police officers backs of having to wear such equipment on a daily basis.
