Aberdaron was the windiest place in the UK yesterday according to the BBC with a speed monitored at 83 mph. Although it was noisy it was also a good day to spend in the banya and Sky our new rescue Samoyed insisted on joining us.

Autumn’s here, the weather is hit and miss and the days are drawing in so the banya (sauna) is getting a visit at least twice a week. The other day we enjoyed a couple of veniks (bunches of birch twigs) and the feeling on your back and legs is amazing, especially if you go under the cold bucket of water straight afterwards. Good news that Sauna Môr is going to be bringing another sauna to the Llyn Peninsula to give more people the opportunity to experience its health benefits.

Having worked in Russia for 7 years I had the opportunity to enjoy a banya from Moscow to Vladivostok. One of the delights is going outside from the hot room in the depth of winter and either rolling in the snow or jumping into an ice cold pool or tub. On one occasion it was jumping into the River Don! Well, we can’t offer that but as well as the cold water from the bucket we do offer a plunge pool that on nice days can also double as a hot tub. Welcome to our self-indulging relaxation experience and let us unveil for you the secret that millions of Russians have known for centuries: the cleansing and refreshing atmosphere of traditional sauna bathing. Enjoy our facilities with your family and friends and have a relaxation experience of a lifetime!

Our traditional-style Russian Banya, or sauna, offers guests the opportunity to experience what is known as “wet heat.” The Russian Banya usually has temperatures of 60-80°C with humidity at about 60-70%. The design of our Russian Banya involves the use of a wood-burning stove that heats up the special stones present inside the stove itself. It is these stones that absorb, hold, and slowly release the large amounts of heat that offer the guest an invigorating and relaxing experience. Also, the Russian Banya has a bucket of water with a ladle, which is used to gently pour drops of water onto the stones so as to raise the humidity of the banya.
