What is Yoga Therapy?

The International Association of Yoga Therapists in America states that, “yoga therapy applies the teachings and practices of Yoga to empower individuals to progress towards improved health and well-being.”

Yoga Therapy is care for the whole person, not just the physical body. Using yoga practices of postures, breathing exercises, relaxation, meditation, sound work, yoga therapy can deal with all aspects of the human condition.

What is a Yoga Therapist?

As a fully trained and qualified yoga therapist I use my knowledge, expertise, and experience to choose safe, relevant, and appropriate yoga techniques to help support and guide you in improving your health and wellbeing.

Yoga therapists help clients to work with awareness, listen to their body and tap into their own innate healing capabilities. In a 1-2-1 session there is a constant dialogue between us as to how things are working. The practice is then adapted and altered to meet your specific needs.

Can I come to a yoga therapy class if I am undergoing other treatments?

Yes.

Yoga Therapy is a stand-alone therapy but it can also be used alongside your existing healthcare regime and at the same time as other treatments or interventions.
It is as important to keep your whole body working effectively to help and support your recovery as it is to deal with a specific issue.

Breathing and relaxation techniques can also help calm down the central nervous system to help overcome a lot of the emotional issues that you might experience when ill-health or injury occur.

1-2-1 or group class?

Your yoga therapy session could either be one-to-one or in a small group. A 1-2-1 session is ideal as it allows us to focus on your specific needs and requirements.

A group class is more general in nature but also more sociable.

MS Yoga Therapy would like to thanks for their recent grant.

As one member noted, 'The MS Yoga Therapy group was really beneficial to me after getting diagnosed. They provided much needed support and understanding. The yoga therapy sessions taught me to how to connect and listen to my body which helped me understand my diagnosis better.'

'Yoga therapy movement is tailored to your individual needs and even on days when I’ve been very fatigued, I can still manage the gentle movements which in turn helps to reduce the fatigue.'

'The sessions help in reducing my spasticity and stiffness which I then try to continue to work on myself, on a daily basis, using the exercises we do in class.'

'The group supports each other and everybody is always only ever a text away if you’re struggling or need help with anything.'

If you would like some more information about the group and how it can help you, please contact our yoga therapist, Olivia Rigby, on 07746197511 or email olivia@oliviayoga.co.uk

MS Yoga Therapy would like to give a huge thank you to for their recent donation. They have given us a lifeline so we can now work to expand the group helping more people with MS experience the benefits of our online chair based yoga therapy classes.

Cathy notes that, 'it is so good to talk to other people in the group who really understand the effect MS has on our lives. We support each other through the hard times and celebrate the little victories that others don’t really understand.'

'If you have MS do give MS Yoga Therapy a try. It’s so easy. Olivia will send you a link to click to join the class. We are not competitive. Everything is tailored to your own individual needs and abilities.'

'The classes improve my posture, keep me supple, release tension in muscles and reduces pain. Most importantly they are good fun.'

If you would like more information on our sessions, please contact our yoga therapist, Olivia Rigby, on 07746197511 or email olivia@oliviayoga.co.uk
