Equine Bowen is an adaptation of the Bowen Technique for humans. It is a fascia release therapy and is holistic (affects the whole body). It involves gentle, rolling moves over very specific points on the body. These points are generally muscle edges, but can be ligaments, neuro-vascular bundles, lymph nodes, acupuncture points or meridian lines. Equine Bowen has been developed so that horses can
benefit from the treatment too. Equine Bowen can help tightness & restrictions in the horse's body which may manifest as things like a sore back, stiffness, sudden temperament changes, unexplained lameness, canter lead difficulty, muscle wastage, lateral movement difficulty & many more. The internal structures are covered in fascia which is all inter-connected, therefore the Bowen Moves can have an affect on the internal organs too. For humans it can help with things like IBS, asthma, reproductive problems, etc, it is a great stress buster and will give the body a good detox. How many treatments will my horse need? Generally at least 3 treatments - one week to 10 days apart but for long standing issues, they may need more. For maintenance, it will really depend on your horse's conformation & how much work he is in as to how quickly any tightness and restrictions re-occur. The ideal would be to prevent them from occurring in the first place. How long does a treatment take? The first one takes around 1 1/2 hours as I will do a conformation & physical assessment, watch your horse move & there's a little paperwork to do. Follow ups are 45 minutes to 1 hour. Other information: During a course of treatment, it will work best if you do not have any other bodywork therapies as they can negate the work that I have done. Your horse will need 2 days off after treatment. He should not be wormed or shod for 2 days either side of a treatment. On the day of treatment, it is best if your horse can be turned out afterwards as movement will help the fascia release.
