In my last post, we explored how your nervous system can get stuck in survival mode — constantly scanning for danger, replaying stressful thoughts, and keeping your body in a state of tension, even when the threat is long gone. This is your body doing its best to protect you. But when survival mode becomes your default setting, it can leave you feeling anxious, exhausted, disconnected… and stuck.
So, what’s the next step?
When we’re stuck in stress, our world gets small. We focus on getting through the day, avoiding discomfort, and just keeping everything from falling apart. And while that’s understandable, real healing and change require more than just coping. They require direction.
Identifying your purpose gives your nervous system something new to aim for — a reason to shift gears from mere survival to growth and healing.
Think of it like this: If you’re lost in a forest, panic and survival instincts kick in. But the moment you find a clear path or glimpse a signpost, something changes. You start moving differently. You breathe differently. Your body starts to relax, even if just a little. That’s what having a purpose does. It gives your mind and body a signal that there’s hope — that change is not only possible, but worth working toward.
Maybe your purpose is to have more energy to play with your children… Or to wake up feeling calm instead of anxious…Maybe it’s to start enjoying the little moments again…
Whatever it is, your why matters. It gives meaning to the effort. And when you know why you're choosing to change, you begin to shift from "I have to do this" to "I want to do this" — and that’s where the magic happens.
Purpose isn’t about having it all figured out. It’s about lighting a spark of intention.
So today, if you’re feeling stuck or overwhelmed, I invite you to pause and ask yourself:
What’s my reason for wanting to feel better?
What will change in my life if I’m not constantly in stress mode?
What do I want to move toward, not just away from?
Write it down. Keep it somewhere visible. And let it guide you gently forward, one step at a time.
Your purpose doesn’t have to be big or dramatic. It just has to be true for you.
What’s your reason for wanting to feel better?
