opened the doors 6 years ago today!!

One room, 6 mats and no idea if anyone would walk through the door.

Today, there are 3 rooms brimming with equipment, echoes of laughter, tears, achievement and pride (not all mine - yours too!).

Whatever your motivation for coming, time out, rehab, fun, strength. However often you attend, once a day, once a week, once a year hopes that Pilates makes you happy

Big love & new socks

Change throws you out of control.

It can be disruptive.

But change is inevitable. It’s important.

The comfort of the familiar, the instinctiveness that comes with repetition, the sense of ease — of effortlessness — that comes with routine.

Just like we change the springs for a different dynamic, it’s time for a little studio shake up.

Our new teachers are all highly trained, but uniquely individual. Ultimately guided by the same principles of Pilates practice, they bring with them different perspectives, different approaches, different energies.

They bring with them newness. And newness is the beauty of change, and change can be utterly LIBERATING.

I never want the studio I’ve built to stand still. I want the schedule to evolve. I want the space to continue to move.

So go get booked up for some newness.*

I think it’s going to be good for us all.

Looking for studio space?

Our first floor mat room is perfect for yoga, sound baths, sensory exploration, holistic practice and meditative sessions.

Bathed in bags of natural light from early doors until dusk, then transformed by the dark into a cosy and inviting ambient space.

Comfortably accommodating 9 people for movement-led classes — double that for seated/sedentary sessions — we welcome enquiries from teachers from a variety of disciplines looking for somewhere local to host their professional practice.

There’s a lovely energy about this place.

Come and experience it for yourself.

DM me if you’re interested in hiring somewhere that we think is pretty special.

I’m going to be out of action for a couple weeks due to a serious infection that resulted in a Hospital stay this weekend.

I will be pausing my sessions for a few weeks to recover, which means our exciting Spring plans to introduce new teachers and classes are starting now!!!

These awesome women are coming to bring their skills and enthusiasm to Move Room from tomorrow:

The timetable is a little smaller than usual, this will change. Grab your spaces ASAP to ensure you keep moving & keep an eye on the timetable or here for updates

I’d like to thank you for your support and kind wishes

Love and Rest

Lucy

There’s a lot to be said for letting go.

Of the worry in your head, the pressure on your week, the structure in your day.

Of overcompensating, of feeling you owe others something, of a constant need to please.

To let go is to release ourselves, but also to surrender.

To surrender; accept a lack of control.

Letting go is not easy to do.

We’re trying so hard to hold it together.

In class we’re more aware of our bodies. How they feel, how they move and respond.

How much control we have, how much control we need.

And how much control it would serve us to release.

Our eyebrows will never help us with an ab curl.

Nor will our to-do lists.

Tension is both a support and a stressor.

It’s all about finding the balance.

On a day when there’s so much talk about giving something up, maybe it should really be about letting something go.

And pancakes.

Balance, etc. 😘

For those in need of less punchy, more peaceful practice, the thought of using apparatus can be a bit daunting.

But apparatus is brilliant for rehabilitation. In fact, it’s in rehabilitation that its’ origins lie.

A means to support and strengthen a compromised body while facilitating conscious connection to breath, our ‘Gentle For All’ classes work you from the soles of your feet to the crown of your head. At a pace that is right for you.

Compromised bodies are crying out for release. They need any physical exertion to be healing.

Designed for postnatal women, those with limited mobility and those recovering injury in mind, in each class we use the apparatus to relieve tiredness, challenged positioning, compromised breathing, weakened posture and pelvic floors that have been under huge amounts of pressure.

Plus anything else you might need. Each session is tailored for the people who attend.

Consider each class time to truly focus on yourself. In a safe space, alongside others in similar situations.

Even if you’re just feeling run down — or down — at this limbo-ish time of year, ‘Gentle For All’ means just that: FOR ALL.

Every Monday at 5.30*.

Know you are welcome.

23/02/2025

Every day is different. Every body is different. And every day, every body is different.

Your muscles may be tighter. Your balance may be more challenged. Your mind may be carrying additional weight and your body may be holding additional tension.

And that’s ok. That’s what it is to be human.

We usually recognise that one size doesn’t fit all. That what works for one person — and one person’s body — won’t necessarily work for us.

But it’s just as important to remember that what fit us — and what fit our body — yesterday, may not necessarily fit us today.

The same springs may feel heavier. The same position may feel alien. The same movement that only last time felt so good may this time feel anything but.

And that’s ok. That’s what it is to be human.

The reformer was designed to adjust. To adjust for injury, to adjust for inconsistency - to adjust for INDIVIDUALITY.

The reformer was built to adapt. To adapt to the body it supports. Not the body it supported yesterday or the day before, but the body it supports in the moment. And moment to moment, a single body can be different.

The reformer is complex frame built to accommodate an even more complex frame.

Our bodies are complex. Our minds, even more so.

And that’s ok. That’s what it is to be human; to be a living, breathing, beautifully complicated human in a body they don’t — won’t — necessarily understand.

All any of us can do is listen to what that body tells us in the moment. To adjust and adapt. To accept that today, something may need to change.

And to know that’s ok.

If the reformer has taught me anything, it’s that consistency is not always key.

We love our little studio. We love its light; the way it lays across the mats, is luminescent on the reformers. We love its shade; the softness of the shadows, casting themselves slowly along the walls as the sun sets behind the building. We love its perfect imperfection; uneven concrete, untreated chipboards and all.

We love our little community; our loyal following; our ever-generous, ever-gracious, ever-growing Move Room family. We love the way you show up, bear no judgement, bring every part of your true selves to class. We love that you trust us to create safe, supportive spaces, shared values of inclusivity and integrity allowing us to be present, to feel at peace.

We love that you continue to be patient; with each of us, each other, with yourselves. We love that you know your practice is not a race, not a test, not a competition.

We love that we can be honest with you and hope you feel you can be honest with us. We love that we can tell you all this.

And today felt like the right time to do so.
