People often think CPD as a therapist looks like sitting in training rooms, reading textbooks, or staring at webinars with a coffee that’s gone cold for the third time ☕😂
And yes… sometimes it does.
But some of the biggest learning doesn’t happen in a classroom.
It happens in the quiet moments of self-reflection.In the uncomfortable moments where we have to challenge our own thinking. In supervision. In noticing our triggers. In recognising when something has impacted us personally. In being honest about the areas we still need to grow.
Being a therapist doesn’t mean we stop being human.
To support others safely and ethically, we have to keep doing our own inner work too. And honestly? That can feel just as vulnerable as the work our clients do in the therapy room.
CPD isn’t always certificates and completed courses.Sometimes it’s self-awareness.Sometimes it’s reflection.Sometimes it’s having the courage to sit with your own emotions instead of avoiding them.
Growth looks different for everyone — therapists included 💛
