We aren’t meant to be in pain for years.
We aren’t meant to suffer day to day with niggles
We ARE meant to be pain free
We ARE meant to be able to move and train as we wish.

Being able to help bring pain relief and help clients get back to what they love doing, or even helping make their day to day life easier beings me so much joy and I’m grateful everyday I get to call this my job!

Calling all runners and hybrid athletes 📢

This is your reminder to get booked in because you and I both know you don’t do as much recovery as you should 👀👀

Tight hip flexors, niggly knees and cramping calves are always the culprits!

This isn’t just for pro or advanced runners!

If you’re beginning your running journey too it is extremely important to keep on top of recovery and getting a deep tissue massage to help with the increase in activity and the stress on the lower body!

On the run up to show day…

How close to show day should you get treatment?

Will it help?

Firstly if a client is a 1-2 weeks, or especially days, before to a show, I will always check with their coach prior as some coaches have different opinions and I like to work with coaches and respect their opinions too.

The first few are from a 2 weeks prior to show number 1!

As you can see there’s some uneven shoulders and tightness going on. So we worked into helping even them out, and help improve the external rotation but without going too deep to cause any additional inflammation/achy-ness.

She then came to me 3-4 days prior to her first show for a lymphatic drainage massage to help reduce water retention and inflammation.

My recommendations are to make sure to keep on top of maintenance work throughout prep as best you can.

Drainage massages are great leading up to a show, but can dehydrate you more.

Remember to always check with your coach beforehand!

Importance of off season maintenance ⬇️

Keeping on top of tightness during off season is way more important than getting massages on prep/dieting..

Here’s why..

Tightness accumulates, especially in the traps and can cause you to perform exercises less effectively.

For example, tight and overactive traps can take over on a lat pull down. Or upper traps taking over instead of rear delts on a reverse fly.

Because you’re fuelled, recovery is good, you’re feeling strong etc, you don’t realise it’s accumulating..

Now give it a few months of training and over-using the traps and all of a sudden you have big imbalances, struggle with posing and there’s a lot of work to undo!

So this is your sign to look after your body now, before dieting and keeping on top of maintenance and mobility so that when prep does come around, posing is easier AND you’ve grown in the right areas 🙌🏻

Cupping has been very popular this past few weeks!

What is cupping?
Suction cups are placed over areas of tightness and can be used to help treat injuries as well as a good MOT

Why get cupping?
👉Increases blood circulation and pulls blood to the area to help encourage a healing response
👉Helps reduce muscle tightness
👉Improves recovery

Does it hurt?
Nope, not in the slightest! It just feels like a tight pulling sensation.
The circular bruises you see on people are not painful in the slightest, despite them looking like true war wounds! 🙌🏻

4 weeks out for IFBB Pro

She initially came to me with issues on the right shoulder, but with some assessment, it was clear that the left shoulder was causing some issues as well.

Tightness in the left trap was protracting the shoulder more giving the illusion it’s lifted.

We also focused on the right mid trap, rhomboids and lat to help free up some tightness which was causing issues in activating the lat and delt both in posing and training

Following the last post, here are some kind words on how has been working with me over the last few months!

Originally coming to me for PT but due to her arthritis, we had to adapt and incorporate some treatment to compliment it!

Aims:
- Reduce pain
- Increase strength.

Reducing pain via deep tissue massaging, effleurage over joints, ultrasound and cupping

We’ve also been working hard in the gym to strengthen the surrounding muscles to reduce load on the joints.

Overall helping her to
1. Live with less pain
2. Make everyday tasks easier eg. Using the stairs
3. Able to push herself more in her fitness journey due to being in less pain!
