On International Men’s Day 2025, we pause not just to celebrate men’s contributions as fathers, brothers, friends & colleagues but to recognise an urgent crisis that affects far too many: men’s mental health. Too often, the silent burden of mental distress is carried in isolation, unspoken, because of stigma, shame or fear of appearing weak. But the cost of silence is far greater than many imagine.

The deadly truth about silence:

In England and Wales: In 2023, 6,069 su***des were registered in England and Wales. 
Males accounted for about 4,506 of those deaths, with a su***de rate of 17.4 per 100,000 for men. 
• By age: men aged 45–64 have some of the highest rates. For example, in 2023, men in that age bracket had a rate of 22.4 per 100,000. 
• Earlier data shows that in 2024, the age-specific su***de rate peaked for men aged 50–54, at 27.5 per 100,000.
