For Support Local Saturday this week, I'd like to talk about The Pennine Lancashire Celebrant

Gemma is warm and friendly and exactly the type of person you need at the most difficult of times.

When preparing for funeral services, she takes time to get to know the person who died by speaking to loved ones, gently teasing out information and stories with kindness and compassion.

She uses humour with sensitivity and just 'gets it'. I've known her dress in football shirts to honour those who died and even learnt sign language so she could sign a song at a funeral.

Gemma led my mums funeral and everyone said that it was a real celebration of a life well lived.

It's obvious from this post, that I can't recommend her highly enough.

(We don't talk about death as much as we should. We don't like talking about funerals. But I would encourage you to talk more.
Let people know what you might want when your time comes and think about the way you want to be remembered).

Today I had the honour of leading a service for a wonderful gentleman that served. Many of his family also served and one of them arranged for a bugle player to play the Last Post and Reveille at 11am, following the service.

It was such an honour to be part of it and thank you to the staff East Lancashire Crematorium, Radcliffe and Silletts Funeral Service for helping with the arrangement of this special tribute.

It's been a lovely week. Full of services and family meetings.

I was very honoured to re-meet a family from last month, as they asked me to say some words as they placed their loved ones ashes in a memorial.

Although sad, it's always lovely to see people again, (and they got me the most loveliest of gifts to say thank you!).

One of the wonderful thing about my jobs is combining different beliefs and religions.

One lovely family wanted a service that reflected mums Protestant upbringing, but also honoured their own Buddhist beliefs.

They kindly let me take and share this image, showing a traditional buriel that was followed by offerings and the lighting of incense.

What music should we pick?

The answer is...whatever you want!

Many families worry if music is right, does it fit, will others like it?

My advise, pick what you love, pick what your loved ones loved. Don't worry about the odd swear word, or about what people will think, or if it fits.

Some of the most wonderful service I've done have seen real reactions to music choices, smiles, laughter, tears and I've even seen a few dances!

I love hearing music I've never heard before and always listen as I write. Recently a family picked this song for a beautiful mum, daughter and sister. I'd never heard it before, but it was perfect. Take a listen (yes, there's some bad language!)
