🩺 Cervical Cancer Prevention Week
This week is the perfect time to remind everyone how important cervical screening is. Cervical cancer causes around 890 deaths every year in England, yet most cases can be prevented with regular screening.
💡 Why screening matters
Nearly 99.8% of cervical cancers are linked to high-risk HPV.
Cervical screening (smear test) checks for HPV and early cell changes before cancer develops.
It mostly affects people under 45, but abnormal changes can happen at any age.
Even if you’ve had the HPV vaccine, screening is still essential.
👩⚕️ Who is invited?
Anyone with a cervix – including women, trans men, and non-binary people – aged 25–64 are invited for a screening every 5 years.
