Today is going to be a hot one 🥵...... and I'm off to London to do a course 😆.

I'm loving my cool towel. How are you staying 😎 today?

Today I was asked if I had to describe my job and my approach to treatment in a few short sentences what would they be?

So I had a go.

It was a bit more difficult than I expected it to be if I'm honest. I could see in the sentences I produced a left and right brain working to come to a resolution. The logical brain listing, analysing (and dealing with grammar🙃) and creative brain wanting to share, express, be and do, collaborate, grow....

So here it is ...

"My degree is Osteopathy but it's principles, it's foundation is what makes it special. Although these principles are taught it is only the act of doing them, trusting them and reflecting on them with humility and an open mind that the next lessons are revealed to the practitioner.

This is why I listen to the story that the patient's body wants to tell me. I use various "lenses" to try to understand that story - be that through my patient's lived and spoken experience or through theraputic touch which enables me to listen to the story from a visceral, cranial, vascular, drainage, joint or emotional perspective. I try to understand that your body has the ultimate wisdom, it is the first and leading witness. And my aim is to seek that wisdom, dialogue with the tissues through touch, understand through an anatomical lens to help the body express and find health and recovery."

Creative brain is very happy with that. I can feel the joy that comes sharing my work with you. ❤️

But logical brain is still ruminating on it 😂. Telling me "don't post that yet .... I need to think......"

My feet are finally touching the ground after an exciting couple of weeks.

I have been off to Ayr, Scotland for some more amazing courses. Working with the brilliant Gail from the USA doing Clinical Interventions: Pregnancy, Labour/Delivery and Post partum care. Been waiting 2 years for this course - no thanks to covid - and yet again had my mind blown💥 learning more interventions - in particular working with the endocrine system😁.

Second course working with the vascular system. 😍

How lovely that these courses go hand in hand 🤝 as the body uses the vascular system to transport a lot of the hormones on behalf of the endocrine system.

As always I "take" my patients to these courses with me. What could be useful and for whom.

I am so grateful to have the desire and fascination to want to learn, a job that demands it of me and patients that are open to trying something different.

Bring it on!!!!

PS a coach to Scotland is a very long slog!!!

During pregnancy your body may not feel quite like its old self. It is working hard to support your growing baby. Why not give it a hand with some help from your osteopath?

There are circumstances when it may not be possible for mum or baby to breastfeed. It may also be personal choice. No judgement, just love.

But if women want to breastfeed this clearly shows the lack of support and understanding available to them.

From my own experience we need to build our own "village" - a supportive network of people around us that support us to meet our aims (breast or not). Stress and anxiety caused by critical people around us does not help with milk production or building those close bonds with our babies.

Believe in yourself. Trust your instinct.
