💜✨ Jumping on the 2016 trend ✨💙

Pic 1: Newly married, London Fields pit stop, grabbing a quick Calippo between home visits on a spring day. I was a Senior Specialist Speech & Language Therapist at Homerton Hospital and had recently left the beloved stroke unit to join the Integrated Independence Team.

I was managing an early supported discharge pathway for stroke and setting up an urgent dysphagia pathway with the aim of keeping people in their own homes or getting them out of hospital sooner, supported by an incredible multidisciplinary team. I also led the videofluoroscopy service.

I navigated Hackney and the City on foot and public transport and loved every minute of community working.

Pic 4 & 5: Baby B was the best early Christmas present, arriving in December 2016. He was the first half of our family puzzle and it was the beginning of my parenting journey and the juggle of parent/work life… no one prepares you for how much things change when you become a parent and this eventually led me to my company today.

I attended Beyond Behaviour Conference today (with the help of Magnus!) ☺️

A day of learning about trauma and neurodivergence - discussing ND burnout, language difficulties, ND culture and communication, supporting ND children through educational transitions and ND experiences.

Looking forward to embedding this knowledge into CISLT’s daily practice to better support our neurodivergent clients and the schools we work with

Hours: 22.5 hours per week (0.6 WTE), Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays.

The Role

We are seeking a calm, organised Practice Assistant to help the practice run smoothly. You will support:
• Phone and email enquiries
• Appointment scheduling and clinic administration
• Record keeping and referral processing
• Basic invoicing and administrative tasks
• Uploading and scheduling content for social media, email, and website

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys routine, structure, and supporting others behind the scenes.

Skills & Experience

Essential:
• Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
• Professional, confident communication
• Comfortable with digital systems and social media
• Calm, reliable, and dependable
Desirable:
• Experience in healthcare, education, or service-based settings

💜💙✨ Team time is vital! ✨💙💜

Yesterday, we held our monthly team meeting - a few hours dedicated to reflecting on our caseloads, setting goals and aims for the month ahead, and sharing knowledge, learning, and resources.

As a clinician, it’s so important to step back from your day-to-day work and gain a wider, more thoughtful perspective – something I truly learned during my time from some great leaders in the NHS.

We made exciting plans for our new clinic in Chelmsford and our upcoming Autism hub, and started mapping out 2026 across our school services, training, and client sessions.
We said a sad farewell to our Speech and Language Therapy students Sian and Sophie and we wish them all the very best with the rest of their studies at Essex University!

Shine and Candyfluff, our elves, also made an appearance to keep an eye on us all 😊 🎅

The Health Inequalities Fund, in partnership with Southend Association of Voluntary
Services (SAVS), on behalf of the Voluntary Infrastructure partnerships of CAVS, RAVS

Last week, I really enjoyed getting back to my MSc studies in Senior Healthcare Leadership at Exeter University.

It’s such a luxury for me as a working mum and Clinical Lead to take some space and solely focus on something for myself.

I got to share some of my ideas from independent practice with NHS colleagues which were really well received and equally was able to develop a vision for the development of our team from the skills and expertise of my fellow leaders.

Feeling energised and inspired this week and I’m learning as a leader that taking some time out from the day to day to reflect and plan really does make me more effective at work (even if I do have quite a lot to catch up on this week!)

Back now to develop ideas for our new clinic in Chelmsford, strengthen our work in locals schools and support our brilliant clinicians to develop to their full potential,

Castlepoint Independent Speech and Language Therapy

I am Amy Williams, a practising Speech and Language Therapist, specialising in swallowing and communication difficulties following a neurological event such as a stroke or brain injury. I also work within elderly care and with clients with dementia. I have a special interest in child speech disorders too.

I have been working as a Speech and Language Therapist for 13 years within the NHS and independently.

I offer comprehensive assessment and treatment of acquired neurological speech and language impairments such as aphasia, cognitive communication difficulties, dysarthria, apraxia of speech and paediatric speech disorders/delay. I can provide regular therapy, if required and appropriate and can include activities that the client can do in their own time or with family and/or carers.

I am also able to offer adult dysphagia (swallowing) assessments within a client's own home or care home and can develop an appropriate care plan from my bedside assessment, including liaising with other key professionals involved in the client's care and providing training to family and carers. This includes assessment for clients who may be approaching the end of their life.
