πŸ’œπŸ’™ A BIG welcome to Amy! πŸ’œπŸ’™

This term has been flying by but we've had the absolute privilege of welcoming Amy Knight, Speech and Language Therapist to our growing team!

Amy graduated with a Bachelor’s degree with Honours in Speech and Language Therapy from City St Georges, University of London. During her training, she worked in a variety of settings, including early years clinics, primary and secondary schools, and a specialist complex needs school. These experiences gave her the opportunity to support children with a wide range of speech, language, and communication needs.

Additionally, Amy has experience working in a children’s hospice, where she supported children and young adults with a wide range of complex medical and communication needs. In this role, she gained valuable experience in both communication and feeding, working closely with families and multidisciplinary teams to provide holistic, compassionate care. This experience deepened her skills in tailoring therapy for children with complex conditions and strengthened her commitment to making a meaningful difference in their daily lives.

Amy particularly enjoys working alongside families, teachers, and other professionals to make therapy fun, engaging, and tailored to each child. She is passionate about helping children build their confidence and reach their full communication potential, and she brings warmth and creativity to every session.

We are so thrilled to have Amy join our team! πŸ’œπŸ’™

In a 2024 YouGov survey, over 1,000 primary and secondary school teachers were asked: How much do you know about Developmental Language Disorder?

Nearly 75% knew very little or nothing at all.

Ahead of next Friday, we want to change this.

We know that with the right training, teachers can identify and offer vital support to thousands of children with lifelong speech and language challenges, who would otherwise be misunderstood or left behind.

That's why we're thrilled to be offering our free DLD webinar for educators!🌟
πŸ—“οΈ Wednesday, 15 October | πŸ• 3:30pm-4:15pm

Join the movement and help raise awareness of the 2 in 30 children affected by DLD.

Back to uni! πŸŽ“βœ¨

Last week I started my Masters in Senior Leadership in Healthcare at Exeter University. It’s something I’ve wanted to do for such a long time, and with encouragement from hubby, friends and colleagues, I realised there’s never a β€œperfect” time…so I took the leap and applied (and got in!). πŸ™Œ

Week one has already filled me with inspiration and fresh ideas to bring back to our team. I’m back home now ready to complete the remote learning and the first assignments I’ve done in 10 years, around my clinical practice. I’m super excited! πŸ’œπŸ’™

October is Selective Mutism Awareness month.

Selective Mutism is an anxiety disorder where a person is unable to speak in certain social situations.

It usually starts in childhood and, if left untreated, can persist into adulthood.

A child with SM does not refuse or choose not to speak, their phobia means they β€˜freeze’ and their words will not come out.

At Clarity, we can provide assessment, education and therapy for Selective Mutism supported by our specialist team, in clinic and within other settings such as school. πŸ’™πŸ’œ

A day out in London today for me with some CPD at UCL’s Better Conversations conference.

It was a great opportunity to learn from other therapists and explore and refresh on approaches to supporting my adult clients with stroke, progressive neurological conditions and brain injury. Bringing back new ideas and inspiration! πŸ’œπŸ’™

Every child deserves a voice and we just have to find the right way to hear it! πŸ—£οΈπŸ“±πŸ’¬

Communication looks different for everyone ♾️

For my minimally speaking, hyperlexic GLP client, AAC has been the key to unlocking his language.

Here he uses his device to join in balloon play 🎈- proof that play + motivation = meaningful communication

What a day on Friday! We went international with one of our bespoke training sessions! πŸ’œπŸ’™ πŸ‡§πŸ‡© πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ πŸ‡«πŸ‡·

Lois was an amazing presenter as always and the information she provided was very well received with lots of fantastic questions and discussions after.

I tuned in from my holiday in France so we really did go global! πŸ˜‚ It was lovely to see my previous students, colleagues and friends and we had a record breaking 117 SLTs in Bangladesh join us πŸ₯°πŸ₯°

We hope to continue our collaboration with Society of Speech & Language Therapists - SSLT in the future πŸ’™πŸ’œ

Castlepoint Independent Speech and Language Therapy

I am Amy Williams, a practising Speech and Language Therapist, specialising in swallowing and communication difficulties following a neurological event such as a stroke or brain injury. I also work within elderly care and with clients with dementia. I have a special interest in child speech disorders too.

I have been working as a Speech and Language Therapist for 13 years within the NHS and independently.

I offer comprehensive assessment and treatment of acquired neurological speech and language impairments such as aphasia, cognitive communication difficulties, dysarthria, apraxia of speech and paediatric speech disorders/delay. I can provide regular therapy, if required and appropriate and can include activities that the client can do in their own time or with family and/or carers.

I am also able to offer adult dysphagia (swallowing) assessments within a client's own home or care home and can develop an appropriate care plan from my bedside assessment, including liaising with other key professionals involved in the client's care and providing training to family and carers. This includes assessment for clients who may be approaching the end of their life.
