A muscle that isnt working for the horse, will be working against the horse'

Horses are athletes, some more naturally gifted than others but what is common between them all is that the musculosketal system makes up over 60% of the body.
When looking at horses one of the first thing we notice is the movement, muscles play a big role in how the horse moves therefore tight muscles will affect the horses way of going.

09/09/2011

Trauma or Strain == Tightening == Creating Spasm or tear == Resulting in Malfunction

Untreated muscle tension can cause the horse to compensate and pass the problem on to other muscle groups, which means that covering up a minor problem could create a bigger one which could lead to a tear or permanent problem

A horse that has been lame would also of compensated through the body causing muscle tension in other areas of the body for example spavins cause the horse to compensate through the lumbar, sacral area (behind the saddle) this can cause problems when ridden especially in the canter.
