Please note the eligibility criteria for the flu vaccine this year:

Aged 65 or over
Aged 18–64 with certain long-term health conditions
Care home residents
Carers (including main carers for elderly or disabled people)
Living with someone who’s immunocompromised
Front-line health or social care workers

Health leaders across Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Berkshire West have issued an urgent plea for eligible people to get their flu vaccine now.

With flu cases already increasing rapidly nationwide and the worst of winter only weeks away, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Berkshire West Integrated Care Board (BOB ICB) is calling on people who are eligible – especially those at risk due to an existing condition – to get vaccinated without delay. Flu vaccine helps protect against flu which can be a serious or life threatening illness.

According to national figures, flu cases in England have tripled compared with this time last year, and the NHS has declared a ‘flu jab SOS’ with millions of vaccine slots now available nationwide.

In our local area there are 1.8 million people with approximately one million total eligible for a flu vaccine.

Sarah Bellars, Chief Nurse at BOB ICB, said: “We are facing a very serious situation. This year’s flu wave is coming in stronger and earlier than we’ve seen in recent years, and for people at clinical risk the consequences can be severe.

‘’We are urging all eligible residents in our area to protect themselves now. Getting your flu vaccine isn’t just for your protection – it helps keep our hospitals and care services safe and running for those who really need them.”

Why now matters:

Cases are already higher than this point last year; early spikes suggest a more intense season ahead.

Being vaccinated now gives you the best chance of staying well when winter bugs surge.

High uptake protects not just individuals but helps reduce pressure on hospitals and services at critical times.

Encourage friends, neighbours and family members who are eligible to do the same – especially if they are at higher risk.

Expansion of the OpenSAFELY secure COVID-19 research platform

NHS England has been directed by the government to establish and operate the OpenSAFELY COVID-19 Service and the OpenSAFELY Data Analytics Service. These services provide a secure environment that supports research, clinical audit, service evaluation and health surveillance for COVID-19 and other purposes.

Each GP practice remains the controller of its own GP patient data but is required to let approved users run queries on pseudonymised patient data. This means identifiers are removed and replaced with a pseudonym.

Only approved users are allowed to run these queries, and they will not be able to access information that directly or indirectly identifies individuals.

Patients who do not wish for their data to be used as part of this process can register a type one opt-out with their GP. For additional information please use the link below

UK Emergency Alert system test: 7 September 2025

X-Ray Booking Changes:

The Swiftqueue booking system will be going live for GP X-rays at the Royal Berkshire Hospital from 29 September 2025. This will allow patients to book and manage their appointments online. From this date, GPs will need to provide patients with the link to book an appointment when requesting an X-ray exam.

If you would like to attend West Berkshire Community Hospital then this is a walk in service and no appointment is required. Opening times are below:
West Berkshire Community Hospital – Monday to Saturday – 9am – 4pm

If you would like to book an appointment at Royal Berkshire Hospital, Bracknell Healthspace, or Townlands Memorial Hospital then follow the link that your GP has provided you to book an appointment via Swiftqueue.

You will be prompted to login to Swiftqueue using your NHS App. If you do not have the NHS App, you will be prompted to set this up. Once logged in via the NHS App page you will be automatically directed back to Swiftqueue to access the appointment system.

If you are looking to book an appointment for a family member, there is the ability to do this after you have logged in by clicking the “Add New Family Member” button.
Please check that the appointment details are correct and remember to click “Confirm” at the bottom of the page.
