A belated warm welcome to Natalie Foote - Finance Director, and Josh Thompson - Operations Director, who both have joined our leadership team in these newly created positions.

Along with their high standards, they've also brought a fresh lens and unique perspective, to help us to continue to serve our communities and families in Berkshire and South Oxfordshire.

As we head into our 200th anniversary next year, we're thrilled to have you both board as we enter this exciting new phase of the AB Walker journey.

A couple of weeks ago, our management team were joined by some of our key partners for an off-site meeting at Henley Royal Regatta 🚣

Thank you to the Leander Club for a fabulous boat ride, providing an incredible backdrop of athletes and spectators alike as we discussed our exciting plans for 2025 and beyond.

And a huge well done to all the rowers, teams, record breakers and supporters who enthusiastically cheered them on all day 👏📢

A special thanks to Monty Walker for his guided tour of the boathouse, having a well-earned year off after competing in last season's regatta, and rowing for England no less!

Julian Walker attended the European meeting of Selected Independent Funeral Homes in Scotland last week where the topic of regulation of the UK funeral sector was extensively discussed. He and some fellow funeral directors managed to win a competition; the prize a magnificent glass stag of whisky! Many thanks to Anderson Maguire Funeral Directors for hosting the group so brilliantly.

Today is the 80th anniversary of VE (Victory in Europe) Day, when the Second World War came to an end in Europe. Through a series of events, including in Berkshire and Oxfordshire, VE day will be commemorated and celebrated. They provide the opportunity to honour our living veterans as well as remember all those who dedicated their lives to the war effort.

Today marks the start of this year's Dying Matters Awareness Week. The mission of Dying Matters is to break down the stigma and taboo of talking about death and dying. This year's focus is on how different communities and cultures in the UK feel, talk about, and deal with death and dying, and what brings them together.

80 years ago, the nation came together to celebrate the end of the Second World War in Europe. This bank holiday Monday, 5th May people are encouraged to come together again over their favourite food. Whether it's a BBQ with family and friends, a lunch with neighbours or your street is holding a street party, this is a chance to celebrate the end of the Second World War in Europe.

Thank you to all who attended our Annual Family Memorial Service last Sunday at Reading Minster - it was a full house. Thank you to Bishop Mary, the team at Reading Minster, singer Julia Titus, the Arborfield Military Wives Choir, The Mayor of Reading Glenn Dennis and all who helped make it a meaningful and memorable occasion.

As part of this year's Dying Matters Awareness Week, Reading Crematorium are holding an open day on Saturday 10th May at 10.30am. This is a chance to ask questions, walk through their memorial gardens and take a tour of the crematorium.
