Charcot Foot, what is it and how can it be treated?
It is a rare but serious complication that can affect people with diabetes. Charcot weakens the bones, joints and soft tissues, causing breakages in the joints and dislocation. It is important to catch it early to prevent the foot collapsing and becoming deformed. In extreme cases the deformity can cause pressure sores, leading to infections and even amputation.
The advice.
1. Keep your diabetes under control by following professional advice.
2. Regularly check the other foot as extra pressure may cause other problems
3. Contact a member of the specialist diabetes team if you notice any other changes.
Will it get better?
The good news is Yes! It can take a long time and the cause is unknown, but it is a persistent condition that lasts several months.

Well done to everyone attending yesterday’s FAA Level 3 Emergency First Aid at Work, all passed with flying colours! We had another great mix of people including foot practitioners, a reflexology and yoga teacher, security personnel, and a judo instructor! Most needed the qualification to meet their insurance requirements, but also appreciated having the skills to use outside of their working lives if needed.

The next classes will be held on the 13th July and the 10th August at St Catherines church hall, NR3 2RJ, costing £60 per person. Get in touch to book your slot!
