At Physiocare, we’ve been using radial shockwave therapy for many years — and it remains one of the most widely used forms of shockwave treatment in clinics today.
It’s now becoming more mainstream, with many physiotherapy practices adopting it and some insurance companies also covering its use.
Radial shockwave is particularly effective for treating more superficial tendons and muscular pain. In our clinic, we see reasonably good results when using it for:
- Achilles tendon issues
- Patella tendon pain
- Plantar fascia problems
- Tennis elbow
We offer a course of 3 or 6 treatments over 3–6 weeks, typically only requiring 3 treatments. Of course, recovery takes time — the body needs to regenerate the tendon — and we always combine treatment with an appropriate strengthening programme.
It’s a very useful tool, supported by the NICE guidelines for the management of certain tendon pathologies.
