College of Integrated Chinese Medicine

College of Integrated Chinese Medicine The College of Integrated Chinese Medicine teaches Five Element and TCM styles of acupuncture

The College was created in 1993 and is one of the largest in the UK. Our reputation is founded on the quality and unique nature of our acupuncture course, which is validated as BSc honours degree by University College of Osteopathy. This course brings together the strengths of Five Element acupuncture and TCM theory in a style known as integration.

23/12/2025

πŸ’™ Each element within the five element cycle has its own key resonances…

❄️ We are now entering the Water Element season of Winter, the season of slowing down, rest and hibernation, where we replenish and store up our reserves of energy…

⛄️ The Water Element is evident everywhere in nature right now - in the frost, the mist, the fog, the rain and snow - even our breath is visible as water droplets as we go out into the cold…

πŸ₯Ά The cold climate of the Water Element is obvious in Winter and this Element’s link to the bones has made it’s way into our phraseology - we can often feel β€œcold to the bone”…

πŸ’§ The putrid smell of the Water Element can be found everywhere in nature at this time of year - as the waters stop flowing as freely, as they freeze, as they become still, or as fields flood and become boggy, that β€œstagnant pond” smell is dominant…

🌊 It is the most yin time of year, a time for stillness, for inward reflection - just as the water in a calm lake reflects images back to us…

πŸŒ€ These various element associations are often used diagnostically in the clinic room too - we can see the blue-black hue on a patient's face, or the groan or compression in the voice, or an increase in fear, which may become more obvious during the Winter…

πŸ”Ή This can help acupuncturists determine the state of balance within a person’s internal five element cycle.

πŸ™‹πŸ»β€β™€οΈ Want to know more about the fascinating world of acupuncture? Would you like to become an acupuncturist? Or do you know a patient, friend or loved one who would be a great practitioner?

πŸŽ“ We are now enrolling for our April 2026 intake, which has weekend classes.

πŸ–οΈ This popular post-graduate course now runs as a 6 month program at the college, starting on Friday 9th January 2026.

The course is continuing to be presented by principal teacher Alex Evans, alongside Kevin Young with his 20+ years experience, plus a special addition of internationally renowned tuina author and teacher Sarah Pritchard, who is focusing on tuina and moxa for menstrual and fertility issues.

Given that tuina is one of the four main pillars of Chinese Medicine, this course will equip you to use tuina as a stand-alone therapy or as an effective therapeutic addition to your acupuncture practice.

Tuina is a complete medical system, with a comprehensive set of diagnostics and techniques. As such, it can increase the effectiveness of your treatments by:

βœ… adding a thorough hands-on palpation-based approach to your existing skill set, diagnosing and treating a wide range of issues, from muscular-skeletal injuries to internal organs disharmonies, to Shen based issues

βœ… enhancing your palpation abilities to be able to diagnose a wide range of pathologies by feeling the body’s qi and blood imbalances.

βœ… providing you with a deeply calming and relaxing treatment which yields powerful results

βœ… allowing you to apply pressure and stimulation to acupuncture points for needle phobic patients

βœ… combining tuina with acupuncture to strengthen your treatments, speeding up the healing process and outcomes

βœ… allowing you to stimulate parts of the body with appropriate tuina techniques, to address disharmony and nourish patients

πŸ“š Tuina Diploma - 6 months
πŸ§‘β€πŸ« Alex Evans, Kevin Young & Sarah Pritchard
πŸ“† Starts Friday 9th January 2026
🏫 In-person at CICM
πŸ’° Β£1850
πŸ’³ Payment plans by monthly direct debit also available
🀲 Open to those with a recognised 3 year qualification in acupuncture

As a highly practical course, there is a focus on developing the physical skills and techniques needed to become a competent tuina practitioner.

πŸ–οΈ Phase 1 - Techniques

Introduces you to the 20 most common techniques used in clinical practice, and the most common sinew stretches. This module will teach you to be able to use structural analysis and channel palpation skills, be able to diagnose and differentiate various pathologies by practicing on each other, match techniques with diagnosis, and protect yourself using qigong.

πŸ–οΈ Phase 2 - Diagnostics

You will be taught how to increase your palpation skills to diagnose and differentiate a wide range of pathologies - Qi Stagnation versus Blood stagnation for example. You will be able to use structural analysis and channel palpation skills by practicing on each other to match techniques with diagnosis.
οΏ½
πŸ–οΈ Phase 3 – Applications and Specialist Combined Techniques

Building on the techniques already taught and assessed, students will learn how to apply these techniques to a wide range of symptoms, including an in-depth focus on using tuina and moxa for menstrual and fertility issues. Compound tuina techniques will be demonstrated, as well as how to effectively combine acupuncture and tuina, such as using Master Tung points in tuina.

πŸ–οΈ Phase 4 - Pre Clinic Preparation

Prior to clinic, students will understand optimum patient positioning, and identify red flags or blocks to treatment. You will devise a treatment plan and be able to demonstrate this on a classmate.

πŸ–οΈ Phase 5 - Clinic

This takes place in the college clinic under supervision and will be assessed on an ongoing basis. In addition to clinic, there will be class discussions on patients, and lectures on various topics including standard treatments for common ailments, treating chronic conditions and the use of balms and oils.

21/12/2025

❄️ Today we mark the Winter Solstice for this year - the return of the light after the shortest day and longest night…

⛄️ Winter Solstice is the most yin time of the year, which means it is the darkest, most still, most cold, most inward moment of our seasons…

πŸ’§ Winter is the season associated with the Water Element and yin - that quiet, inward, cooling, calming, moisturising energy…

πŸ’™ It’s now all about hibernation, getting cosy, resting, having time alone to reflect on the year gone by, honouring, replenishing and consolidating our energy in a really gentle and mindful way…

πŸ”₯ This is the direct opposite energy to yang - that busy, moving, upwards and outwards energy of fun, connection and joy - all the Fire Element and Summer themes!

πŸŽ…πŸ» And yet, there is something rather aligned with those Fire Element themes arising around Christmas and the festive period too, at the time of the Winter Solstice and the Water Element - we just need to make sure we keep a balance! The optimal example of yin and yang in harmony!

πŸŽ„ That said, we hope you enjoy a restful break over the holidays, and we look forward to seeing you in the 2026 New Year. The college will be having a break too, and will close from Tuesday 23rd December, until just after the New Year bank holiday.

πŸ™ Our warmest winter wishes to you all on behalf of the college teaching team and admin staff.

Come to this practical workshop with Juliet Bromby-Phillips and learn more about the cyclic nature of women through a variety of different lenses.

Delve deep into what happens when we place the energy of heart and womb as a central pivotal lens.

Explore the inner cycles and inner β€˜micro’ elemental phases of a woman’s cyclic life, and learn Somatic Practices for the Womb.

This 1 day CPD workshop will weave together the wisdom of the womb through:

Leave the course feeling confident to guide and support women in attuning to their unique cyclic imprint and how that affects and influences their entire life. This can have profound effects on all aspects of a woman’s health.

The day will feel very nourishing for yourself too – a deeply yin day where you will experience the benefits of attuning inwardly to the wisdom of womb.

Suitable for all – those without or without a physical womb (we are always working with the energetic womb)

Whether you graduated in the last month, or in the last decade, you can join our fabulous programme leaders for Point Location and Practical Skills - Nicola Gibbs & Kasia Orzechowska - to spend the day going over points, pulses, cupping, moxa and more...

The day is aimed at alumni and is an opportunity to practice and refresh skills where there may be a lack of confidence or knowledge.

You will cover points, needling, cupping, moxa, gua sha, tongue and pulse, starting with a brief Q and A to assess the areas/skills those attending wish to be covered. Our programme leaders will then work the day around what best suits the requirements of the attendees on that day.

There will not be a strict agenda, but our programme leaders will focus on what is requested. They will email everyone beforehand, to get the techniques, points and niggles that you want to focus on…

Therefore it is the perfect time to locate and needle points which cause YOU concern, get any pulse and tongue queries answered, and practise any skills that you may not be as confident with - all in a safe and supportive environment, with the fabulous teachers many of you had whilst at the college!
