During World Continence Week, we are raising awareness that urinary continence is treatable and many women suffer from this condition.

There are 3 types of urinary incontinence:
1. Urge - a sudden intense sensation and not making it to the toilet in time
2. Stress - leakage with daily activities such as coughing, sneezing and laughing
3. Overflow - not emptying the bladder fully, resulting in dribbling / leaking of urine

The aim is to raise awareness of this common condition - it is estimated 14 million people in the UK suffer from some degree of urinary incontinence.

Risk factors invovled in urinary incontinence include:
* smoking
* caffeine consumption
* diet
* sedentary lifestyle
* women are more likely to suffer from this, particularly after childbirth and menopause
