How are you managing in this hot weather?!! 🥵
Enjoy the sunshine but look after yourselves and others with some tips on staying safe:
* Drink lots of fluid – even if you aren’t thirsty – opt for water rather than tea, coffee, alcohol or sugary drinks.
* Eat normally – even if you aren’t hungry, you need a normal diet to replace salt losses from sweating. In addition, try to have more cold foods, particularly salads and fruit, as these contain a lot of water.
* Don’t spend long periods sitting or working outside during the hottest time of the day: late morning to mid-afternoon.
* Avoid strenuous activity, and limit activities like housework and gardening to the early morning or evening when it’s cooler.
* When inside, try to stay in the coolest parts of your home. Keep curtains and blinds closed in rooms that catch the sun.
* Keep windows shut while it’s cooler inside than out and open them when it gets hotter inside. If it’s safe, you could leave a window open at night when it’s cooler.
* Wear loose, lightweight, light-coloured, cotton clothing.
* Take cool baths or showers.
* Splash your face with cool (not very cold) water, or place a damp cloth on the back of your neck to help you cool off.
* If you’re travelling by car or public transport always take a bottle of water.  Try to avoid long journeys.

CONGRATULATIONS – Four of our dedicated care workers enjoyed a celebratory lunch with a few of the office team last Friday. This was to mark their long service of 8 to almost 14 years! Unfortunately another two were unable to make it. But as we do this periodically through the year, they will hopefully attend the next celebration.

We have an amazing team who often put their own plans aside to step in and ensure our clients are not without the support they require. Recently Carmen made some major changes to cover a Live-in package whilst the existing carer visited family abroad. Even having to extend the cover at short notice due to flight changes!

We would like to draw your attention to a petition calling for all social care providers to be exempt from the employer NICS increase.

Please consider signing the petition and sharing it with others. The petition is gaining momentum, and if it reaches 100,000 signatures, Parliament will consider debating the topic.

We believe the increase in employer National Insurance will put immense pressure on the social care sector, a sector already stretched by funding and staffing issues. We call on the government to review this decision and exempt all social care providers from these added costs.
