A - Finasteride can help slow certain types of hair loss, but it is also linked to a range of potential side effects in medical research and patient reports. These may include reduced libido, sexual dysfunction, mood changes such as anxiety or depression and other hormonal effects. Some people also report increased shedding when they stop taking it. There are published cases of symptoms continuing after discontinuation, although experiences vary from person to person.

Finasteride only targets one pathway connected to hair loss. It does not address scalp condition, follicle health, blood flow, inflammation or lifestyle factors that may contribute to thinning.

For these reasons, and since its release as Propecia in the 1990s, International Hair Studio has chosen not to use or recommend Finasteride. Based on our experience, we believe many clients benefit more from treatments that do not involve medications with systemic side effects.
