Easter Celebrations at Equibreed UK 🐣🩵

Over the Easter holidays, our team took some time to celebrate together. This year’s festivities included an egg hunt, a team quiz (featuring questions from our very own Director, Amber), and even designing our own t-shirts—alongside, of course, plenty of chocolate!

At Equibreed UK, we believe our team is at the heart of everything we do. Taking time to connect and enjoy moments like this is a key part of maintaining the supportive, close-knit environment we’re so proud of.

Easter also marks a special time of year for us, symbolising new beginnings—something we are privileged to be part of as we support our clients in achieving their breeding goals.

We hope everyone had a wonderful Easter, and we look forward to welcoming new and returning clients throughout the season ahead!

Stallion Testing: Swabs & Bloods Explained 🧬

Before the breeding season begins, all stallions must undergo essential health screening to ensure the safety of mares and the success of breeding programmes.

This includes blood tests and swabs for:
• CEM (Contagious Equine Metritis)
• EIA (Equine Infectious Anaemia)
• EVA (Equine Viral Arteritis)

These tests are required prior to a stallion’s first collection of the season, helping to protect both individual horses and the wider breeding population.🧪

For stallions entering semen freezing programmes, repeat testing protocols may apply. The exact requirements will depend on the destination country, as import regulations dictate:
• Which tests are needed
• How frequently they must be repeated

Our team ensures all testing is carried out in line with current regulations—so you can move forward with confidence, whether breeding locally or internationally.

Have questions about testing or preparing your stallion for the season? Get in touch—we’re happy to help!

Want to maximise your mare’s chances of getting in foal this season? 🌱🐎

Successful breeding isn’t just chance — it’s about expert management, precise timing, and the right support team behind you. Here’s how to give your mare the best possible start 👇

✨ 1. Start with a full reproductive assessment
At Equibreed UK, we carry out thorough reproductive examinations, scanning, and uterine health checks to ensure your mare is ready to breed and identify any issues early.

✨ 2. Perfect the timing
Ovulation timing is critical. Our team provides regular cycle monitoring and precise insemination timing to maximise conception rates.

✨ 3. Keep your mare in optimal condition
We can support with tailored management plans to ensure your mare is in the best physical condition for breeding and maintaining a pregnancy.

✨ 4. Reduce stress & optimise environment
From on-site livery to experienced handling, we create a calm, consistent environment that supports reproductive success.

✨ 5. Stallion selection & semen management
We assist with stallion selection advice, semen ordering, handling, and insemination, ensuring the highest standards at every stage.

✨ 6. Advanced reproductive options when needed
For more complex cases or performance mares, we offer AI, embryo transfer, and OPU/ICSI, helping maximise success where traditional methods may not be suitable.

💬 Every mare is different — which is why we take a bespoke, hands-on approach to every breeding programme.

🐴 Why Choose Embryo Transfer for Your Mare? 🌟
You don’t have to choose between a competitive career and the breeding barn! We can help you do both simultaneously🏆
Here is why Embryo Transfer (ET) is a game-changer for top-tier mare owners:
1️⃣ Keep Her Competing: Your mare can continue competing while a recipient mare carries the foal. No “maternity leave” required! 🏃‍♀️💨
2️⃣ Multiple Foals, One Season: ET allows you to produce multiple foals, with different stallions, from a single mare in one calendar year. 🧬👯‍♀️
3️⃣ Safety First: Avoid the physical risks of pregnancy and foaling, especially if she has had past complications. 🛡️❤️
4️⃣ Extend the Legacy: Perfect for older mares who are still cycling but may struggle to carry a foal to term. 👵👑
Embryo Transfer is the ultimate way to fast-track your breeding program without hitting “pause” on your mare’s career. 📈
Are you considering ET this season? We have huge amount of experience in this field and a large herd of recipient mares available for hire in all shapes and sizes to suit your mare!

The importance of ensuring your newborn foal in nursing within the first few hours of birth🐴
Unlike humans, foals are born with zero immune protection. They rely entirely on colostrum—the mare’s first milk—to survive their first few months.
Here’s why those first sips are a race against the clock:
🛡️ Instant Immunity: It’s packed with antibodies (IgG) that protect against life-threatening infections. ⚡ Rocket Fuel: High in fat and energy to help a newborn stand up and stay warm. 💩 The “Starter Button”: It acts as a natural laxative to help the foal pass their first manure (meconium).
⏳ The Golden Rule: The foal’s gut can only absorb these antibodies for a few hours. If they haven’t nursed within the first 6 hours, it’s time to call the vet!
Better safe than sorry— our vets routinely do an IgG blood test at 24 hours old to ensure the “transfer” was successful and the foal has received a good level of immunity. 🩺
