People come in carrying a lot. Stories, worries, griefs, frustrations, pain — some spoken, some so uncomfortable and much often held in the body. By the time someone lies down on the couch, it’s rarely just about the symptom they booked in for.

Having a place where you’re listened to properly is not a small thing. To stop and lie down, and being cared for can be profoundly settling to the nervous system.

Days like this remind me why the space is such an important part of the work.

Happy Lunar New Year and welcome the year of the Fire Horse.

Fire Horse energy is about movement, warmth, courage and momentum but not in a forced, “new year new you” way. More like things starting to feel possible again. There’s a bit of spark returning. A sense of let’s go, rather than you should be doing more.

You can feel it in the air and the light is different. Spring doesn’t arrive all at once, but this is often the point where it’s first properly felt.

This time of year is far more in rhythm with feeling motivated, curious and ready to move forward.

Valentine’s Day can be a mixed bag. For some it’s lovely, for others it’s sad, painful or doesn’t mean very much at all.

Wanting to feel loved and appreciated is a very human thing and really healthy.

One of the things I love most about my job is having the privilege of being with people as they go through hard times and often watching them come out the other side. 💜

At this time of year I notice people mentioning stiffness that’s crept in, energy that never quite came back after Christmas, low moods, poor sleep, or a general sense of feeling worn down.

Winter asks a lot of us. Less light and more getting through. By February, that effort can start to catch up.

There’s nothing wrong with that. It’s not a sign you’re failing or falling behind. It’s just where many bodies are at right now and it's so common.

Sometimes simply noticing that and being a bit kinder to yourself is a good place to start.

Acupuncture can be a great aid in getting you back to feeling more 'you'. If you want to get in touch or ask anything, email or call is always the best way.

Doesn't a pop of colour and a blue sky make such a difference on these cold, winter days? They certainly do to me!

I felt a hint of Spring today...it's brewing and bubbling underneath, even if the evidence isn't always as pronounced.

I’ve been around on here for a while now, so it feels like a good moment to say hello again.

I’m Karen. I’ve been an acupuncturist for over 25 years, and I still genuinely love the work. Not always in a shiny, magical way, but in the quiet satisfaction of seeing how acupuncture can help some people feel more like themselves again.

I’m not someone who ever planned to be big on social media. I still wouldn’t call myself a fan. But I know there are people out there looking for a practitioner who feels like a good fit, and this is one way of finding each other.

I'm loving this new season of my life - where my energy goes into my practice, my patients, and the people I love. I’m happiest heading off on little adventures in the camper van with my husband, being near the sea, noticing small things, and yes… if you know me, you know that I love a sparkle.

I’ve got notifications switched off to keep my boundaries where they need to be. If you want to get in touch or ask anything, email or call is always the best way.

Thanks for being here ✨

January can feel heavy for a lot of people. There’s an unspoken expectation that we should be motivated, hopeful, ready for a “new start”, when in reality we’re still deep in winter. It’s cold, it’s dark, and energy is often low. Feeling flat or fed up at this time of year isn’t a personal failing, it’s a very human response.
Nothing in nature is rushing right now. Things are lying low, conserving what they’ve got, waiting for the conditions to change. We’re no different.
So if January feels slow, foggy or hard, try taking some of the pressure off yourself. You don’t need to push or force anything into shape. Go gently. You'll thaw, when the time is right.

I often feel a real sense of relief when we come into the January.

I’m not a fan of that period between Christmas and New Year. I tend to slip into not really looking after myself in the ways I usually do, and I notice it more as the days go on.

When the light starts to return, I feel like I start to return to myself as well. There’s something about that shift that helps me come back into my body and into my routines.

January is often when people reach out for treatments, and I think it’s for a similar reason. It’s not about starting over or fixing anything. It feels more like a craving to return to themselves after a stretch of being a bit out of sorts or disconnected.

I am taking a break over the holiday period from 24th December and reopening on 5th January. This time of year often gives us the opportunity slow down a bit, so I’m doing just that. Rest, cosy food and some goodies along the way 😋

Wishing you a peaceful time, whatever you believe or choose to do!

I’ll see you in January!

I’ve been treating from the yellow room at the practice rooms for nearly 2 years now, and I’m really loving how it feels. It’s calm, warm and homely — full of quirky furniture, soft rugs and a bit of character.

This stage of life and work feels much more in tune with who I really am. I think that’s the gift of time, things start to line up, and what surrounds you begins to reflect what’s inside.

Part of being human is seeing the contradictions. The constant shifting and how we get our heads around that can be challenging. We can be kind and caring people and yet not act like that when we are not feeling our best.

Chinese medicine has helped me understand that all these emotions have a place. None of them are wrong or separate. They move through us like the seasons do. Anger feeds growth, worry can root us, sadness softens, joy lifts, fear grounds. It all connects.

I don’t see the world only through that lens, but it’s given me a way of making sense of how everything is linked — our bodies, our minds, our emotions, the world around us.

It's my wedding anniversary today, and the day itself felt a lot like the way we live our lives — nothing fancy, lots of sparkles, and those we love around us. We didn’t overthink it too much and wore what made us feel like ourselves (yes, sequin trousers!)

I appreciate my husband for so much — for meeting life with a sense of simplicity and kindness and for not needing everything to be perfect. We try not to take ourselves too seriously, finding fun where we can, and choosing the simple bits that feel real.
