We’re thrilled to start the new year celebrating a truly well-deserved recognition for Maggie Wood, our former Director of Nursing and Quality. 🎉💫

After more than four decades dedicated to improving health outcomes for people in contact with the justice system, Maggie has been awarded a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the King’s New Year Honours List for her outstanding services to patients.

Through her work, Maggie has touched the lives of thousands of patients – whether in her role as a nurse, through her compassionate leadership and relentless desire to drive improvement, or as a result of the creativity and innovation she is known for amongst her colleagues.

Maggie’s achievements include:

- Turning around struggling healthcare services and improving outcomes for countless patients
- Developing a patient safety audit tool rolled out across prisons nationwide
- Giving patients in prison a voice via an adapted NHS approach
- Driving collaboration across the UK health and justice sector, co-organising the first conference of its kind
- Raising professional standards through a dedicated communications campaign

Carpal tunnel began to shape Humphrey’s nights and his everyday independence. Sleep was interrupted, routine activities felt harder, and he felt he had little support from his GP. He decided to explore private care in Somerset.

A £95 consultation gave him clear explanations and time to ask questions. He chose surgery, and a cancellation meant an earlier date than expected. The experience felt calm and efficient. Stitches were removed at his GP after 10 days, and recovery was quick. Movement returned, confidence returned, and he went back to the gym.

Humphrey’s journey shows how information, choice and timely treatment can change life after symptoms have taken hold.
