πŸ’¦ HYDROTHERAPY πŸ’¦

Hydrotherapy is a form of therapeutic exercise performed in warm water, utilising the properties of the water to assist in treating various chronic conditions. One of the major benefits of hydrotherapy is that is occurs in an environment which reduces the load on weight-bearing joints, becoming a great alternative for those that suffer from joint pain, poor mobility and low cardiovascular fitness.

Hydrotherapy is suitable for individuals with:
πŸ’§ Musculoskeletal pain or conditions, such as neck, low back or lower limb pain
πŸ’§ Arthritic-related joint pain, e.g. osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis
πŸ’§ Post-surgery rehabilitation, e.g. joint replacements, and other post-operative conditions
πŸ’§ Sporting injuries
πŸ’§ Neurological conditions

There are many benefits of Hydrotherapy including:
βœ… Reducing pain
βœ… Improving range of motion and overall mobility
βœ… Improving muscular strength
βœ… Encouraging muscle relaxation
βœ… Improving balance and co-ordination
βœ… Improving cardiovascular fitness

Our Physiotherapists and Exercise Physiologists are available for hydrotherapy appointments at our North Lakes and Redcliffe clinics. An initial assessment will be conducted in clinic to ensure that hydrotherapy is appropriate for you and to ensure you achieve maximum benefit from your treatment relative to your condition and treatment goals.

If you are interested in hydrotherapy with one of our Physiotherapists or Exercise Physiologists, please head to our website to book online or call either of our clinic locations below:

HEAT πŸ”₯ vs. ICE ❄️

Have you ever wondered whether you should be applying heat or ice to treat a recent injury or alleviate ongoing aches and pains?

Heat and ice are both considered easy-to-use, inexpensive and effective treatment options for pain and injuries. However, it can be hard to decide which will provide most benefit dependent on the time frame post injury.

Heat is typically used for muscular and chronic pains, such as neck or low back pain, or arthritic pain, as it helps to soothe stiff joints and relax muscles. Hot water bottles or microwaveable heat bags can be used as heat sources, or even a warm bath or shower!

Ice on the other hand, is used for acute or recent injuries, such as a sprained ankle or recent surgery (e.g. total knee replacement) as it helps to reduce pain and swelling. Ice can be applied in the form of a cold pack or a bag of frozen vegetables (make sure you wrap in a towel to protect the skin).
