When we hear "dementia," our minds often jump straight to memory loss. And while memory challenges are certainly a significant part, this complex condition affects so much more of the brain and body.
As a Nutrition and Physiotherapy partnership, we regularly see the broader impact. Dementia can influence:
πΆββοΈ Movement & Balance: Changes in gait, difficulties with coordination, or increased risk of falls. (This is where tailored movement helps!)
π£οΈ Language & Communication: Struggling to find words, follow conversations, or express thoughts clearly.
π Visual Perception: Problems with depth perception, judging distances, or navigating familiar spaces.
π€ Problem-Solving & Reasoning: Daily tasks that require planning or decision-making can become challenging.
π΄ Sleep Patterns: Disturbances in sleep can often be an early indicator and impact overall well-being.
Why this matters:
Understanding these diverse symptoms helps us offer more targeted, compassionate support, whether it's through adapted movement, brain-nourishing foods, or simply clearer communication. Itβs about supporting the whole person.
