Go give this a read. Great explanation of how hormones can make us feel and affect performance. 😍😍
Following on from my little quiz on my stories - loads of you got it right!
But some didn’t know, and that’s ok.
Because a recent study by has shown that there is an alarmingly high number of women that don’t know much about their cycles and their bodies.
So now: I’m on a mission!! 🙌🏼
So, the answer was: I was in my first half of my cycle (when I was very resilient to stress, feeling physical strong, and digging up the garden to put in a new drainpipe!) I was also on a 20 hour fast.
In the first half of our cycle we have more oestrogen (estrogen) and you can see on the graph that our testosterone is just going to peak during the middle of our cycle.
So it’s during this half we are normally feeling at our best and taking on the world, resilient to stress and being a super hero 🦸🏻♀️ 💪🏼
Oestrogen is our hormone that basically, wants us to go out and party, have s*x and reproduce! So of course, we are going to be feeling pretty good during this half of our cycle. We are nothing but mammals 😉so the body is trying to get us to go make babies like they do on the discovery channel! 🎶🎵(Showing my age here!)
Now, during the second half, you’ll see that oestrogen start to dip and progesterone kicks in.
Progesterone is wanting us to nurture our bodies, incase we are pregnant - after our oestrogen days!
So, we will feel less inclined to go out, we may feel more introverted, we might feel tired and want more carbs and sugar as this helps the body to produce glucose and so have a successful bleed if we aren’t pregnant.
So, during the second half is where I’d be less inclined do to strong activities and certainly would NOT fast. If anything, some walking and light yoga is where we want to aim exercise wise🧘🏻♀️
In summary: first half - oestrogen (wants us to get pregnant so makes you feel amazing)
Second half - progesterone comes in, wants us to nurture and eat incase we are pregnant, or, have a detoxifying bleed.
If you don’t have a regular cycle, you could log how you are feeling day by day and see if you can find patterns, which would point to where your hormones are and so where you are in your cycle at a particular time.
